Notgrowup If you get up the Burnsville way i could mark up a western north carolina map for some great rides around these mountains and ride low traffic roads .
Wife made the decision to ride the Tail for me. 'No! Not with me on the back.' It started to rain while we were there and there was a backup as a rider on a Roadking was down and we were told that they had both lanes closed while the ambulance was getting him out. Said he caught his foot board on a curve and it flipped him.
We got a pic of Deals Gap and headed south to ride the Cherohala Skyway. Maybe next time but I'm sure it's gonnna be by myself.

Going up at the end of the week, if the wife makes the same comment as yours, I got my response all ready ... "OK sweetie, I'll see you in about an hour"
rode down to knoxville on friday the 10th. rode the dragon and cherohala pkwy the morning of the 11th. was in chattanooga at 1pm and home in wisc. at 145am. did another 380 miles on sunday with my dau. in law up and down both sides of the mississippi. the dragon is ok just take your time and let the idiots pass. i did wave at every scooter i passed in either direction. 129 is in great shape. when i left there i took some back roads (1147 maybe) over to the cherohala. just as twisty and a lot less traffic. the cherohala was really beautiful.
may 15 was my initiation day on the dragon (Hwy129) found hell bender(Hwy 28 ) to be as challenging but less crowded . cherohola skyway also a real blast. spent 3 days exploring the local roads using the Iron Horse Resort as our home base. As with any trip preping your ride is step one to getting home safe
I love it down there, we just got back from our trip down we were at deals gap resort july 5th,6th,7th, 8th but i got to admit i only road the dragon twice. But i did ride the hellbender (28) the cherohala, the new found gap, 360, wayah rd, and alot of other roads i love the riding down there.
I would recommend a trip to that area to anyone. Just be careful and have fun.
Rode "the Dragon" July 13th, out of Maggie Valley and back, through the Smokey Mountain Nat. Forest, and the Foothills Parkway, back to Maggie on RT28 and 19...ALL the roads down there are twisty and interesting (with a lot less traffic), but The Dragon has them all beat on the marketing side. Try ANY of the roads off of the BRP for a real challenge
