is it wrong to...

It's a different strokes thing. Do what you want to do, nobody said it was wrong. I agree with hog herder, for ME I'm riding the bike. I suggested that you inquire about parking the truck/trailer at the HD dealer in N.M. Have a great trip.
Do what you want.
Is it my understanding from another post you made that you are going to Durnago? If that be the case you can leave the trailer at my house. We are 35 miles south of Durango.
Send me a PM with the dates you are looking at, and we'll go from there if you want.
Regards,
Bill
He Mike I know where you are coming from, you are not one of those I was speakin of, those that look down their nose at trailers are the ones I'm talkin too. I know you to be one of the folks that believes in "What ever is best for you" type folks.

Someone said in another post that a motorcycle was made to ride. Experienced motorcyclists have evolved into loving the journey as much if not MORE than the destination. What's that slogan, "it's not the destination, it's the journey". That's why they (me) kinda frown on trailers. They know that the real hidden joy of motorcycling isn't possible in a truck. I say to anybody, take a multi-day/week trip on a bike, don't concern yourself with just getting there, take the time to soak in and experience the JOURNEY, take the back roads, talk with the locals, and I'll bet ya your attitude changes about motorcycling and trailers. If you can't make the time, you will never understand the experience.
My point here is not to bad mouth, rant, or tell anybody that trailers their bike anywhere that it is wrong to do so. Again, I don't care. I'm just making a statement (opinion) based on my experience as a motorcyclist concerning what the folks trailering their bikes are missing. The best thing about gettin' there, is the gettin' there.

However I don't own a trailer myself, so I guess I can't really say what I would do given the option

(honestly, in your scenario I would most likely trailer if I had a place to stow it)
But getting back to the trailer thing. I agree with trailering it to a rally to play Billy Bad A$$ in front of everyone is BS. Daytona is a different story (I lived there for 3.5 yrs). Thats a hard ride from Jersey in Mar and its notoriusly wet in FL then. The Republic of TX rally is this weekend and you should see the trailers heading to Austin... from FW - its only 200 MILES!
I will probably trailer it to Amarillo and put it in a storage lot. I got suggestions of Angel Fire and Taos to ride through in NM on my way to Durango. It saves me 300 of nothing to see here miles 1-way.
Bill, if I decide to drive it through to Durango I'll let you know but that forces me back to Durango and covering plowed ground. As i said before, wouldnt mind meeting ya at a Hog Stop for a cold one though. I'll PM you when it gets closer.
Thanks again for all suggestions and advice (even when you didnt know you were giving it to me). I'll try to be a more visible member from here on out (especially in the Touring section). I may only be in my twenties, only riding for 7 yrs but I have logged boo-koo miles, had problems, caused trouble, and had fun.
If it makes for a more enjoyable trip to hurry and get somewhere and unload and ride, then Do It! This in my personal opinion is better then those that FLY/RIDE. Flying somewhere and renting someone elses bike to ride it doesn't make sense to me unless it is in Hawaii.
BTW, that leather jacket doesn't go with those boots. J/K

Got a hotel in Cody for a week. Every day, we took a road trip on the bike in a differant direction. One day it rained, so we took the truck.
At the end of the week, we loaded it all back into the truck and trailer and drove home. We arrived home rested and relaxed after a great trip. Since we drove the truck, it's one day up and one back. The bike is about 1.5 days each way without getting beat up.
OTOH,m when I go to Durango, Taos, or Sante Fe, I never trailer. The scenery between here and there is too great to miss. And Durango is an easy 1 day ride. Unless it snows; then it takes longer.
