Default Sturgis, West Coast and Back to Missouri

Well, we finally got home from our 8,000 mile trip. It started on July 29th and ended on August 23rd. We went to Sturgis for 9 days. Enjoyed all the riding in and around the Black Hills. After the rally, we headed west. Went through Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma and back home to Missouri. Broke down between Jackson Hole, Wyoming and Idaho Falls, Idaho. HOG Roadamerica came through, just barely! A new stator and regulator and we were good to go. No further problems. Cudos to Yellowstone Harley in Idaho Falls. Took some parts ordered for a local and used them on ours. We camped at Sturgis, but stayed in motels the rest of the trip. Crappy motels= 2. Comfort Inn, Mariposa, California and Comfort Inn, Moriarty, New Mexico. The one in Mariposa was a dump and the most expensive room of the entire trip. Mariposa, NM., the a/c crapped out and they wouldn't refund or anything else. Pool was full of locals. Sign said guests only, complained to the desk clerk and she said they were guests, yeah, right! Hot going across Oregon. Only a few hours of rain on the entire trip. Cool on the coast. Went down hwy 101 and crossed the Golden Gate Bridge. It was fogged in, so couldn't get any good pics. Stopped by Arlen Ness's shop in Dublin, Ca. Nice little musuem of his bikes. Headed south on 99 and went across to Yosemite. Fairly early in the morning, but still jam packed. Left there and headed south to Palmdale to visit relatives. Left there at 4 a.m. and headed across the desert to Needles, Ca. and Kingman, Az. Hottest we have ever been on a bike! 115 and up. Stopped at a couple dealers in Kingman and Bellemont, Az. The T-shirts are now at $40. No new one for me! Cruised across after spending the night in Flagstaff and next night in Moriarty, NM. Left early next morning and drove 876 miles to the house. Longest we have driven. Got to Joplin at dark. I was afraid of deer, but didn't see a thing. Coolest part of the trip. Temps in the low 50's. Had a good trip with only the one issue. Had the bike serviced at Antlope Harley in Lancaster, Ca. Have decided I won't pull the trailer behind the bike anymore. Just too hard on the bike and on me. Here are a few pics of the trip, enjoy.

I hope that you didn’t get any hail damage while in Sturgis. It was brutal this year. The 100 plus temps in Kingman and Needles are not unusual either. I am glad to hear that your trip was almost uneventful and the pictures that you posted are a nice bonus for the forum members. Thanks for sharing. Take care and ride safe!
