Hey Folks! Warm days of spring are not that far away! We are planning on doing Rolling Thunder XXIII over the Memorial Day weekend. I believe the ride will be on Sunday, May 30th. There were almost 500K bikes in attendance last year and the good folks of Washington DC, Virginia, and Maryland really turn out! I am proud of my 20+ years in the US Submarine Service and have met some really great folks that love to support our troops and veterans. If you can work it into your schedule - ya outa give it a shot! I will be the bearded guy on the black Harley...oh yeah ~~ boots, jeans, and a black t-shirt!!!
Pentagon North parking lot - be there!

Reason: correct spelling
Have been talking to the wife about making this trip from TN.
Do all the motels get full up ? Have to start researching the route
as we prefer to stay off interstate. We will take Hwy 441 across
GA in mid April , so the end of May will be about right for another
road trip.
Yeah man, ya really ought to consider this ride...the destination is everythng! Our Nation's capital and 500,000 Harleys...WOW ~~ it doesn't get any better. Seriously, it is a good time. There [obviously...] are tons of things to see and do in DC. Rolling Thunder has a web site and posts updated information throughout the year. Several vids remain on YouTube from last year.
And yes, it is imperative to secure a hotel room early. I will be booking ours this coming week. Being as we are addicted to nicotine, our choices are getting smaller! There are thousands of rooms around the immediate area...just depends on your individual taste. We will most likely be at the Best Western in Falls Church, VA. About a 5 mile run down to the Pentagon.
I arrived last year at about 8:30am was pretty close to the middle of the pack. Ride started at noon and we started engines at about 2:00pm. Folks bring everything! Looked like the Beverly Hillbillies on Harleys...I mean if it could be strapped on - it came. There were even folks with small grills and beach umbrellas! I would advise a cooler for juice and water...not supposed to be any alcohol in the Pentagon parking lot... The police are very tolerant of bikers for this special weekend - but don't push it...
Went down with local our local hog chapter last year, its a yearly ride for them but we had just joined. The best thing we ever did!!! We don't get in parade, we watched from across from Lincoln Mem. Great ride down, no bad traffic, cruised right in across bridge , pulled into grass and parked!!! I've heard the horror stories about pentagon parking lot staging area!!! Wanted nothing to do with that!!! Watched the parade, THATS GREAT TO SEE!!! Anybody thinking of going DO IT!!! Worth it!!! Mark
Yep ~~ the Pentagon parking lot can be daunting...but not anything that can't be overcome! Planning and lots of patience come in real handy. There are a few vendors selling snacks and stuff and then there are groups furnish coffee and water. Obviously, the lines get quite long at the porta-potties...but that is to be expected at any large gathering held outside! I am working on a plan to strap some lawn chairs on the bike - just haven't quite figured it out yet. If for some reason ya decide not to ride - just participating will give ya memories for a long time...
There is a reason it is called Rolling Thunder - to be there in the Pentagon parking lot and hear the bikes being fired up and rollin out...WOW! Nothing like it. 4+ hours to empty the parking lot and the police [military and civilian...] do a great job. Truly a great feeling to ride and see all the folks lining the streets with lots of flags and patriotism...
