Guys, guys, guys, enough of this foolishness!! You're scaring the fellow. Mexico is a stunning place to visit with picturesque scenary that will last a lifetime. One trip and you'll be so enthralled with the atmosphere you'll break the bank to keep going back. I'd spend my whole retirement down there and then some, hell, I want to be buried there it's so beautiful! I've been all over the globe and NOTHING is as breathtaking as the transitional changes in geography as the beloved land of Mexico. It is practically summer time year round and the Spanish women LOVE Canadians. They'll peel your grapes for you and fullfil your innermost desires that are only penned in some of the most romantic novels ever to find themselves in print. I really hope you don't listen to these misguided "truths" behind the anonymity of the internet and please, by all means, enjoy your travels.
BTW, can I have your bike when "they" find it?
PS...R.I.P

been in el paso now for 10 years. Used to cross the border from time to time for recreation and whatnot. NOT ANY MORE. NO WAY, NO HOW.
The murder rate in Juarez in particular is HIGHER than the death rate in Iraq. 2009 = 2600-plus killings alone, including women, children and babies.
Its brutal. The people of Mexico are good, decent folks. The government is at best scared as hell - but mostly corrupt.
You will have no rights in Mexico. This is true.
The risk/reward factor - especially with your bike - is just not worth it from my point of view.
I keep my riding to the SW U.S. this time of year. You're welcome to join us!
deanp1964, I really miss El Paso and loved the people, both Americans and Mexicans. Of all the places I have ever traveled to El Paso has the friendliest folks hands down. Marquette Michigan had some really fine people as well. I sure dropped a bunch of change at Batnett's while I was there. Would not want them working on my bike from rumors I heard but if HD makes it you can find it there.
I've lived here on the border for 25 yrs. Mexico is a dump. It's the anus of the western hemisphere. It's extremely corrupt and utterly controlled by the cartels. Kidnappings and murder at a level only seen in Iraq. Cops are openly assaulted with machineguns in the streets. Multiple times cops are found beheaded in groups, etc
I live in San Diego and can tell you the above statements are basically accurate. I haven't been over the border in 15 years and have NO desire to ever cross it. Absolutely NOTHING in Mexico is worth the risk to life and or property. The cops are corrupt, the government is corrupt, etc.
Sorry can't say anything positive about it but NO WAY would I suggest to anyone to travel thru Mexico. A couple tourist spots along the cruise ship routes are OK (Puerto Vallarta, Cancun, etc) but the rest of the country is dangerous especially in the border areas. Deep southern interior Mexico is nice in many ways and the people are nice hard working folks, but the government and police are corrupt and owned by the cartels basically. The people of Mexico need to have a Revolution and hang/excecute all the morons in control down there and hang the drug cartel members in the streets and take their country back. Maybe they will some day. The PEOPLE of Mexico are generally nice, hard working folks, but the GOVERNMENT is extremely corrupt. The population down there is a Victim to their own government basically and to the cartel criminals that infest it. I wish them luck but at this time that country is hostile and dangerous.
To be brutally honest a Canadian tourist on an expensive Harley has "Victim" written all over him. They will rob you blind and leave you on the side of the road and there's NOTHING you can do about it. You have NO RIGHTS down there whatsoever... NONE.
The police drive stolen cars from the US all the time. It's a running joke basically. Run the VIN number on the police chief's Excursion and it's probably a stolen vehicle from the US.
+1.....I live in El Paso. The same thing goes on in Juarez. Used to be a nice place to go to. No more. Your chances of coming back are 50/50.
I ask for some simple information, and I get moronic statements from people that have never left the county. If you have no informationthen run along and play. Don't post your drivel. Supprised you didn't tell me to buy a manual......sheeesh, children today
I don't know why you say that. I have been to Mexico and there is NO WAY I would take my motorcycle across the border.
You asked a question and I think you got some pretty straight answers, but hey, go for it. Make sure you let us all know how it turned out.
You will have to get some mexico insurance when you cross the boarder, its sold right there. Watch where you buy gas and such. Don't drink the water!!! And you must have ba--- the size of cantalopes, nobodys kidding when they say don't go. But by all means go ahead ang go.

Call it moronic if you want. Anyone who rides their bike into Mexico is the moron. Twenty years ago, maybe o.k. but chuck holes so big you could get lost in. The roads are better now but the killings and kidnappings are worse and people drive like crazy. I worked their for 17 years and currently live on the border. I won't go there at all now. A lady who use to work for me got killed last month, innocent bystander who got caught in the crossfire. And yes it is a shame, alot of nice people and some beautiful country down in there. Shame on you for not taking good advice from people who are telling you straight. You wanna go, go, but don't say you weren't given good advice.
I was there two years ago...gran bahia principe for 2 week winter vacation..was thinking of booking in again at the grand rivieria princess.....now you guys are scaring me....
(even at that though....I would be scared to go on a bike....driving down their roads and seeing hummers with guys holding machine guns, etc...little freaky)...but what do you guys think of airport fly-in..bus to resort and home now.....grp is by Playa del Carmen

We were in Hautulco Mexico for hoildays in November. It was a beautifal spot to go. It did have check points on both sides to keep the undesirables out. I sure wasn't going to ride my rental bike outside them. Our rep at the hotel said the same thing that northern Mexico was a war zone.

Please feel free to make jokes about my avitar, as I am a Canadian who enjoys a little humor
I have not done it and not about to waste any more time on this but I would suggest either a google or youtube search. Okay, I am going to take back something I said in my post "I hope I do not regret" as this person has not responded unless I missed it. Go for it and be sure to let us know how your family fares once you are in your final resting place. Just hope they have internet access in whatever afterworld you end up in. Also hope you have an awesome life insurance policy. Sorry to be crass but as Forrest Gump said, "Stupid is as stupid does".
