Not really much to see between Vegas and SD. You might head over toward the coast to see the ocean for some of the trip though.

If you're taking the 15, and I assume you will since that's the most direct route, be sure to plan your ride according to traffic. It can be brutal from LA on down.

You could take the 93 southeast out of Vegas and check out Boulder Dam. I took the dam tour...pretty cool. Then you might continue south, you can take the 93 or the 95, thru Laughlin, Boulder and make your way towards Lake Havasu. There's a couple of decent cafes at the London Bridge Resort area. Head from there down to Parker AZ and you can decide to go on towards Blythe or take the 62 east towards Twentynine Palms. Personally, I think 29 Palms is where they shot all the Mars Lander video. I'd continue into Joshua Tree and take the road through the Park (Park Drive) to get back to the 10 freeway. Really cool National Park if you're into the desert, rocks, cacti and all the associated critters. It's just a short hop from here to Palm Desert where you might jump on the 74 and pop over the hill into Hemet. Stopping at the casino on the top of the hill makes a nice place for a break before going on down into hemet. Continue on the 74 over the hill from Lake Elsinore to the 5 freeway and head south to San Diego. A lot of this ride is across desert with not much over 4' tall to look at but alot runs along the Colorado River and through some nice hill areas with beautiful desert landscapes. Pretty good roads with mild sweepers that are fun to cruise. This would take two days if I was riding with the wife. We'de most likely stay in Palm Desert for a night.
Where ever you go, enjoy your ride!

You can take the 15 to a little below Primm. Go east to the first right turn and head south towards Amboy. The two lane is a nice ride. There's an old Train Depot that you can check out that's been restored. From Amboy go into 29 Palms and then to Yucca Valley. Check out Hutchin's HD and eat at his old diner. Drop into Palm Springs and head over the mountain to Anza. From there you can catch the freeway in Temecula or stay on back roads through the San Diego Mountains.

I lived in Havasu for a while and used to go to San diego most week ends. From vegas go over the hoover dam or down through Searchlight into CA by Needles. I40 then turn to Havasu, follow the river cross over by Parker, then head out towards Glamiss , then follow the border. you get desert and mountains, lots of little towns . or disengage your brain and take I15
