We are heading from Dover Del. after the nationwide race making our way to Mansfield Pa then back home in the Adirondacks Ny . Any suggestions on the roads in Del. or Maryland to Mansfield Pa.. Getting a room on Saturday night and if we need to will get a room on Sunday night . Have to be home for work on tuesday morning. AS of now we are thinking of going up Route 11/15 in Pa then go to see PA grand canyon. Any suggestions?
There are lots of great country roads to ride throughout Lancaster County in PA. I would head up from Dover and look for state roads to cut you over to Rt 213 in Maryland at Georgetown. Rt 213 is a nice road and there are three river crossings that are scenic.
Stay on 213 through Elkton, MD to Lewisville, PA where 213 will become Rt 841. Stay on this until you intersect with Rt 896. Head North (left) on 896 which will take you to Strasburg, PA and Amish Country. From here you have a number of options depending on your preferences to get to Harrisburg where you can cross the Susquahanna River and get to 11/15.
Send me a PM and I can help as I have lived in this area all my life.
Also, you could pick up 896 in Delaware to shorten the miles, but IMHO it is not nearly as nice a ride and you will typically hit much more traffic.
dhubley's route is pretty good. I like 896 the whole way. There are a few less small towns to deal with.
Either way, take College Rd West, (across from the Acme in front of the track), and then turn North on Rt 15. It will get you to Middletown and then Chesapeake City areas just as easily and a lot less traffic.
I live in Wellsboro -- 13 miles west of Mansfield. From Harrisburg, 15 all the way to Mansfield is the way to go. Grand Canyon's on 6 west, from Mansfield.
I just want to thank you all for giving me your input on some of the roads. Here is what we did. The ride was an AWESOME RIDE!!!!!!! NIce weather and good friends.
Left Dover Del after the Nationwide race.
Took College Road to Rt15 N
I think we took 310 (?) into Maryland then up on 213 to Elkton MD Continued on 213 up to 841 in PA.
Then 896 to Lancaster. We ate breakfast at Jennies Diner (awesome food and good prices)on RT 30
To rt 30 to 283 to 230 to 743 (dont remember the route # but you go across RT 22 to the "T" in the road and make a left) We took rt 15 up ( did anyone else see the Staue of Liberty in the Susquehania River? Its in the area of Marysville) towards Wellsboro but wanted to get off RT 15 so we took 61 to 487 to 54 to 220 to 287 to 660 then backtrack after we saw the grand caynon of PA. To 287 to 328 in to ELmira then other routes.
