Default NYC to Ste. Genevieve

Thinking seriously of riding out to Ste.Genevieve, MO from New York City and was wondering if there were any roads I should avoid, or roads and attractions i shouldn't miss.
My route out, and probably back as well is such;
I-78 through Jersey and Pennsylvania, (I-76 in central Pennsy);
I-70 and I-71, western Pennsylvania and West Virginia;
I-64 west of Louisville;
I-57 south of MT. Vernon to CR 154 West over Rend Lake;
then down County Roads 3 and 12 then over the Great Mississippi at Modoc Ferry.

I don't like riding the super slab but I'm familiar with I-78 in New Jersey and it's not bad once you get about 10 miles west of New York and the other interstates don't look too bad on Google Maps.

Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Don't know when you're coming, but the Modoc ferry isn't running right now, the river is still too high. You can call (573) 883-7097 to see if it is running or not. Ste. Gen is a really nice place, with some nice restaurants, shops, and, of course, old houses.

I have a couple of guys coming in from Pittsburgh next month, and I was hoping to run them down the Illinois side of the river and cross the ferry. Hopefully, the river will be down far enough by then.

Why Ste. Genevieve?

Thanks for the tip, scoteh. I called the ferry and will check as I get closer, next Friday or so. I have also worked out a route over the bridge at Chester, Rt 51.
The lady at the ferry said that the river's going down up north of them so it's a day by day situation.

Ste. G. for a family/clan gathering.

If you have to cross at Chester there is a county road (H maybe?) a mile or two west of the bridge on your right (1st one on the right). That runs over to St. Marys, which is on US 61. Hang a right on 61 and that will take you up to Ste. Gen. Much prettier ride than going into Perryville and going up I-55. I hope the river goes down. I really enjoy riding the ferry with my bike!
Have a safe trip!
