Faber,

You once talked about Driggs Id. What is the best way to get there from Cody.
Is the Ashton Ranch Road at Moran a good way to go. We are thinking about staying there Thursday evening?

Trying to find hotels in the area.

We are staying at the Buffalo Bill Cabins. They are part of the Holiday Inn Complex.
Today I went to the Buffalo Bill Cody Museum. What an exhibit of firearms and Indian Culture. OK tomorrow we are planning on going over the Chief Joesph and Bear-tooth.
The weather here today was great and tomorrow is suppose to be better.
My wife met Laura Klock from Klock Werks and one of the owners of Vanguard motorcycles they both are also members of the Motor-maids.

The MM had two parades today. First they rode in a parade in Powell and then Cody.
Close to 250 ladies on all kinds of motorcycles.

I promise to post pictures as soon as we complete the Bear-tooth and Chief Joesph Hwy's.

You need to get to Teton Pass. You can either go from Cody, into YNP and then turn south at West Thumb, go all the way to Jackson and over the Pass.

Or you can go south out of Cody through Thermop and down to Shoshoni/Riverton. From there take 26 ro 287 heading NW. Very scenic ride. It will take you to Moran Jct. From there, go south to Jackson, then over Teton Pass. Quicker than going through YNP, too.

Well today we left at 9:00 AM and headed for the Bear-tooth Pass from Cody. I am not sure I can describe how beautiful this road is. It was cool but I took of the leathers and just used a long sleeve shirt, sweatshirt and light weight jacket.
As soon as we turned off the Chief Joesph Hwy and started up the Bear-tooth my voltage regulator began acting up again. This time the meter pegged and the light stayed on. I went on anyway and decided that I would deal with it at Red lodge.

My wife followed me on her Heritage and did great. The construction was not bad at all.
I had to follow a pilot car over gravel but it was hard packed and we stayed in one tire track or the other. Did not switch tracks until the road became blacktop again.

The views were wonderful but because of the voltage problems and the fact that the Wyoming pull off were about 4-6 inches lower than the road we took minimal pictures.

At Red Lodge I again took Faber's advice and we ate at Bogart's. Food was good and service fair. They were very busy so I think that was what slow them down.

I called my dealer back in Indiana and talked to the service manager. He is a great guy and shoots straight from the hip. I told him that today not only did the yellow engine light come on and off but also the 6th gear light and once while in 1ST gear the neutral light came on. He told me that he believed the voltage Regulator was failing and obviously was somewhat intermittent. I then called Bear-tooth Harley in Billings and explained what was going on and why I thought it was a voltage regulator. They said they were booked solid with travelers bikes in for service. Didn't know whether or not they could work me in but to come on to Billings and they would see what they could do.

The light never came on all the way to Billings but when I got there the service writer got me in touch with a young man named Chris. I think he was the service manager and he listen to my whole story and said lets change voltage regulators. I explained that I had the ESP extended warranty and they called and it was approved and in less than 1 hour we were back on the road. The meter stayed in the proper range all the way back to Cody. $48.00 for the regulator and $149.00 for labor. I have had the ESP for two years this coming September and it is due to expire. My out of pocket was $50.00 for the deductible. Now I know the initial cost of the ESP was $1K so I may haved spent more than I would have but that was the gamble I took so I won't whine about it. I really appreciate Chuck in service and Chris for getting me in and fixing the problem so quickly.

Tomorrow we are heading for Yellowstone and the to Cooke City and back down the Chief Joesph Hwy. Saturday we head for home with a stop in the Black Hills to see Crazy Horse Sculpture.

Now the side benefit was the great ride we had from Billings to Cody. It was fantastic and it is funny how sometimes things work out.

If you are starting in Cody and want to finish in Cody, go up the CJ to the 'Tooth, then on to Cooke City and into the Park. Cruise the Lamar Valley to Tower, then head south over Dunraven Pass towards Canyon. Keep south into the Hayden Valley and to Fishing Bridge, then head east towards Cody. You'll see some of the very best that the Park has to offer on that route.

I hope you are going to hit the rodeo in Cody one night! You can buy tix to sit over the chutes.

Well once again I took Fabers advice .... only in reverse. Left Cody went into the East entrance and then to Lamar Valley and Cooke City had lunch then took the CJ and back to Cody.
Saw a Black Bear, Bison, Mule deer and some fast little critter scurring across the road.

Heading back home to Indiana in the morning. Will try to stay a day or two in the Black. Hills. If anyone is planning a trip out here to Yellowstone on Montana, you must search these threads and take Fabers advice. Each turn brought a spectacular view each one better than the last. I will try to upload pictures when the ISP is faster than what I have here in the Buffalo Bill cabins at the Holiday Inn in Cody.

After this trip I remember how beautiful it was in 1986 when I first was here as an adult
for the first time. If you can get out here do so you will not regret it. By the way the motorcycle riding here is nothing but fantastic. Big sweepers and switchback here and there. Construction was nothing to worry about. Montana seems to have a better handle on the road situation. There roads were definately in better shape.

Faber thank you so much for all your advice.
