Off to the Beartooth and Yellowstone...
Tomorrow we will try to get to Mitchell SD. I will post pictures as soon as there is something to post and I learn how. My wife did great riding her Heritage. Two bikes do make it easier. As usual we took to much stuff.
I tried to cut back but had to take my laptop in case I'm needed at work.
Faber we are coming to your part of the country. Thanks for all the past post and great suggestions you have made to everyone. We are going to try some of them. More later.
Mitchell is a good stopping point. Check out the Corn Palace and see what the theme is this year. Also, last Culver's you'll see--when you leave Mitchell, you leave the Midwest.
How far are you going from there? To the Black Hills or are you going to push on to Buffalo or Cody? (Keep in mind you get an extra hour when you cross into Mountain time at Murdo.)
Ride safe and enjoy!
Stayed in Iowa City at the Coralville Best Western. We looked at all hotels using the Harley ride planner. But i called each hotel myself to book the rooms. Today we took I 80 to I 680 at Council Bluffs and then I 29 North.
Going across I 80 about 30 minutes from Coralville I noticed my yellow engine light coming on for about 10-15 seconds and then shut off. It did this about 6 times in about 20 minutes. After I turned on I 29 North I stopped and called my dealer back home. They walked me through a diagnostic routine and said it was the voltage regulator trying to send too much current to the battery.
I bought an extended warranty two years ago and contacted Roosters HD in Sioux City Iowa. They were great about getting me in, but of course the service department was to close in about 45 minutes after I got there. The tech stayed about a half hour over and tested everything they knew of but could not get the codes to display another error.
They told me they would change the voltage regulator if I insisted but thought if they replaced it and later on it failed due to another problem that the warranty company would baulk at replacing it. I took their advice and did not replace it. They cleared all codes and I put on about 180 miles and the light has not re-appeared.
Left Sioux City and proceeded North to Sioux Falls when we turned West on I 90 the wind began. I can not describe how strong the wind was. I stopped and got gas and the attendant said it was blowing 40 MPH yesterday and today was not as bad. Well my wife thought it was bad and I wasn't that pleased myself. Got to Mitchell and went to eat at a steak house called Chef Louis's. Had Prime rib and a nice glass of Merlot.
Rode the bikes back to the hotel and went for a swim in the outdoor pool.
The hotel is just like the ones I stayed in with my parents and brothers back in the late fifties and sixties. Kind of nostalgic.
Tomorrow we will take pictures and plan to go through the Badlands and get to Sundance Wyoming for tomorrow night. May wait for the Mount Rushmore and Crazy horse monuments until the trip back home. Not sure yet. don't have to be in Cody until Monday.
I will start taking pictures tomorrow in the Badlands.
By the way, we saw about a 1000 Wing Dingers as they were going home from the Honda Wing Ding
event in Des Monies. Almost everyone of them waved at us. The seemed extremely friendly. I wonder if they all buy those trailers and tow them? Seemed like everyone had them.
My wife is doing great on her bike. I was running between 65 and 75 where legal and every now and then 80 if I had too. She ran right with me and had no problem keeping up at all.
One side note. This morning on I 80 somewhere in Iowa three Motor Maids, I am sure on there way to Cody for the convention passed me like I was tied to a post. They had to be going 80 plus. Maybe we will meet up with them in Cody.
More tomorrow evening.

I will start taking pictures tomorrow in the Badlands.
If you have time to get to Cody, then take the side trip to Devil's Tower!!!!!
No problems with and sensors today both bikes ran smooth. Stopped for gas a Presho and met a real nice couple from Ohio riding an 2008 Ultra. They were going to Wall SD for lunch and we turn and went through the Badlands. I have include a couple of pictures. As we were trying to take a picture at the Badlands sign a lady stopped and took out picture with our camera. As she drove off I noticed she was a professional photographer. How lucky for us. We stopped in Wall and taking the 35 miles loop through the Badlands and put on our rain gear. About twenty minutes later it started to rain but not real hard. We ran through Rapid City and noticed it was getting colder. Finally got to Sundance. Faber you are so right. We have been only eating one meal a day and had got use to have a nice evening meal. Well tonight our choice was a Subway that may or may not have been open and De Geno's frozen pizza from the truck stop next to the motel. We had pizza. Not bad but not the prime rib I had last night.
I must be getting old at 58 and 1/2. I could hardly get off the bike because of a sore left back muscle. I took some Ibuprofen and got in the hot tub then the pool. I feel a little better but getting old and being so out of shape ...sucks as they say. I hope these limited pictures look OK.
My wife impresses me more and more every day. After 38 years of marriage she has strength I never new she had. She rode in the rain today and never complain a single word and at highway speeds. Tomorrow were off to Cody. More pictures as the weather is suppose to be better. On another side note the traffic today was minimal everyone must be at home partying and getting ready for fireworks.
How do I add pics? I have them on my desk top. Sorry but I need help here.

The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
There are about 300 Motor Maids here and my wife was thrilled we made the trip.
Still trying to find out how to post the few picture we took on the trip getting here.
Only had one small construction area on Hwy 16 in the basin between Big Horn Mt's. and Cody. It was about a quarter mile of gravel but very manageable. This morning some of the men were planning a trip over the Bear-tooth Pass. It snowed last night in Cooke City about 4.5 inches and they closed the Bear-tooth Pass because of ice. We will try again on Thursday when the weather is suppose to be 81 degrees.
These motor-maid ladies are something. One lady who is 85 years young rode here from Indiana. Many different styles and sizes of bikes.
It is raining lightly now and cool so I am resting up for Yellowstone tomorrow and Thursday. I 90 and Hwy 16 were fine no serious construction at all. Great trip and great riding. More later.
