I'm riding to Sturgis from Detroit and I'm looking for a route north from the I-80 east of Moline to the I-90 west of La Crosse. I will be travelling on a Tuesday and should hit Moline around 4-5PM. Should I ride up the east or west bank of the Mississippi for the most scenic route?
Any good, cheap, no utilities, tent campgrounds a couple hours north of Moline?
take 84 north through Savanna and Galena Illinois to 61 north in Dubuke up to 90.
Great biker bar called Poopy's outside Savanna. Lots of camping and places to stay around Galena. The roads are really scenic, a little twisty, and good riding.
For a more scenic ride the Iowa side, to make time the East side thru Ill. and Wis. Poopys' in Savannah has free camping and showers. Fairly good food and drinks. The Iron Horse Social Club downtown is a can't miss as it's full of cool motorcycles and memorobilia. If you like to eat a good stop for Breakfast is Kalmes in ST Dontus Ia. Brietbachs in Balltown Ia is awesome for lunch but it's almost over kill on a bike, so much good food you want to take a nap afterwards. If time is no object Iowa side to Marquette and cross over to Wisconsin to I-90. Either way you can't go wrong.

I was just up that way today...... heading up 84 in to savanna, just past the downtown area look for Clay street on your right..... it'll take you up to rt. 20 ( which takes you to GAlena) but it has some great curves and scenery for this part of the country..... was fun today even in the rain.
