Default Wisconsin ??

Heading to Door county and then up to Duluth the last week of July, we'll be coming from South Dakota then to LaCrosse. Just looking for some suggestions on some scenic roads and places that we should see/stop along the way. Nothing is set in stone as of yet just looking to show my wife a good time. Thanks for any help.

I lived in LaCrosse for some time and there are many great roads to ride. Hwy 33 to LaCrosse is a great ride, lots of twisties. The road gets really good in Hillsboro and does not straighten out until you get to LaCrosse. Wildcat Mtn. is on this road near Ontario. Door County will be really nice too as you have the Green Bay on one side and Lake Michigan on the other, many great views to be seen. Stay along the water for the best sights and if you come south a bit along the lake-Hwy 42 you will pass through some great small towns. Two Rivers and my now home town of Manitowoc offer some good sights, food, and people.

In Door County there are some fun places, remember that it is a tourist area. Good eats: Sister Bay Bowl. (really, great fish and broasted chicken) Have to go to Wilson's for ice cream. Have to. Lot's of supper clubs, the best though is not to touristy: Mt. Greenwood Supper Club. Each town on the bay side is worth stopping and walking around. And don't eat at Johnson's where there are goats on the roof. It's just pricey pancakes.

If your into old sailing ships, the tall ships will be in Duluth the last week of July. were going to try and make it over for part of the festival. You just don't see ships like these everyday.

After coming across SD and southern MN any road with a tree with seem scenic.

Take WI 35N of Lacrosse, or you can go back into MN and take 61. Both go along the Mississippi and are great scenic roads to head north on. If you aren't in a hurry you can take WI 35 all the way up to Superior, of course it gets less scenic north of St Croix Falls and you might need to find different roads that hug the river.
If you are in a hurry, once you get to WI 93, it isn't a bad road either, take it north from WI35 to Eau Claire and hit 53 up to Duluth/Superior, 53 isn't so scenic but it's a lot faster.

Not sure if ill make it all the way to Duluth, but that hwy 33 coming out of Lacrosse sounds like fun, sounds like the south western part of the state has lots of nice roads.

Door county Shipwrecked is always my first stop in Egg Harbor , lots of Microbrews.

Breakfast in Fish Creek would be the White Gull Inn ( turn left as you get into town ), cherry pancakes were awesome there a couple of weeks ago , they have won awards for there cherry french toast , sausage must have been usingers , top notch.

Cookery in Fish creek has good food and a evening wine bar.

Wilsons for Ice cream , food sucks.

Johnsons have great Swedish pancakes and Swedish meatballs , that's all I every order there.

Peninsula state park in Fish Creek is worth driving through ( 15000 acres I think ) I used to camp there yrs back.

Reservations are made months in advance but if your on a weekday you may get lucky , stop and ask. if your camping.

Always best to hit Door during a weekday. Bring your wallet

Duluth is hosting the Tall Ships event from 8/29 - 8/3 and rooms will be extremely difficult to find around the area. Nothing is available on 8/31. The Bayfield area is nice but lodging might be a problem there as well.

The MN North Shore along Superior is an awesome ride with Split Rock Lighthouse, Gooseberry Falls. Also the Duluth Skyline Drive is a worthwhile drive with some incredible views.
