Anyone have ideas about where not to miss in Denver Area?
Peak to Peak from Golden Colorado to Estes Park Colorado is awesome. When you are in Estes Park ride Trailridge road in the rocky mountain national park. Can't go wrong anywhere you ride in the mountains.
Might be a bit far for a day trip from Denver, but Highway 9 between Hartsel and Royal Gorge (west of Canon City) is absolutely outstanding. Great scenery and next to no traffic.
From Denver, take 285 southwest to Fairplay, then south on 9. East on 50 to Florence then 155 north to Colorado Springs. I-25 thru Colorado Springs, then 83 north back up to Denver.
I agree with Harley Husker. First a trip to Colorado Springs and up to Pikes Peak. Next I suggest the Ridge road from Estes to Grand Lake. Both roads offer a lot of Wow! experiences. Plan for substancial weather and temperature changes.
Sounds like a lot of fun. If your renting a harley down there from what I have been hearing, you should ride further west and south also. There are so many roads you won't catch them all anyways
Trail Ridge is being worked on. On and off pavement. Some delays. Still, it's always worth a ride over. It's a great round trip going to Idaho Springs on I-70, up Peak to Peak to Estes Park, over Trail Ridge, down to Grand Lake, through Winter Park, over Berthoud Pass, and then back into Denver on I-70.
West and south. I am headed back to CO on July 29th to take 50 to 550 then Montrose to Durango on my outbound route. When I return I will take highway 50 from the east side to the west side. The Royal Gorge Bridge is a must if you are near Canon City. I did see the worlds largest rocking chair there also. I have liked everywhere I have gone in Colorado.
Thanks all for your input, Seems like 3 days isn't enough to see it all.
I like to rent, keeps my bike clean and my sons come from NJ & NC. Greatest bonding experience in the world. The only reservations we have are Airplane & Bike rental, the rest is on the fly.
Excuse my ignorance bit . . . . What route #'s constitute the "Peak-to-Peak" ride that is being discussed here? I'm looking at riding through Hot Sulfur Springs Colorado and Estes Park on my way from Los Angeles to Sturgis . . . . and for the sake of a better ride I'd be Happy to take a detour or 2 or 3 or . . . .
