Default Route 17

Planning a trip to Myrtle Beach from NJ. Anyone know if route 17 is a good roadway. Plan on picking it up in VA and taking all the way down to SC. Not looking for fast roadway. Just something with some sights that is not stop signs and traffic lights every other mile.

It's a nice ride, but a little time cosnuming. Lots of open country. But also lots of developments - stop and go, strip malls, condos. It's a good route, just add a little extra time.

The stretch from NC/Va border to MB is great.

Beats the hell out of I95.

I always enjoy riding on Rt 17 south Virgina and down. Only advise I would give is to bypass it from just below York river bridge, if I remember correctly Rt 105 west and pick up 64 east for a short to 258 to cross the James river Rt 17 picks up again. Some nice old towns along the way. I go to Edenton NC a lot and it is off of 17.
