Loads of great info here for the novice ~ I'll add my Acer Laptop has about 3k miles on it with no problems so far (I keep a good warranty-BestBuy) and remember to balance your load out not just evenly but don't let the top get too heavy.

Be Safe

If you break it down, it fits great! 16" midlength, standard A2 flashhider.

Some great ideas here - just remember one size does not fit all. It will take some trial and error to figure out what YOU need.

+1 on shipping some stuff ahead if you have a firm destination and a good place to send it. We'll be going to a wedding 2800 miles away this summer, and will ship my suit (when I buy one, don't currently own one) and the wife's dress etc. ahead.

And another +1 for shipping stuff home you buy as you travel. Done that many times.

Oh, yeah, Ruger SP101 .357 and Glock G30 .45. The wife rides her own bike and packs a Kahr PM9 9mm and a Glock G26 9MM.

Love the SP101. First time I picked one up I shot a bottle cap off a wooden fence post from about 10 yards out. Very smooth shooting and accurate gun.

It just gives someone else an opportunity.....maybe the bad guy. Plus I always wonder where people lock em down while going into places where carryin ain't legal...if someone gets your armed piece and commits a crime the legal responsibility often falls on the gun owner. I'm good with my G23 and a couple of extra loaded clips, and hopefully that's overkill....lol

But to each their own I suppose.

Weekend trip (usually around 2k miles) = one pair jeans on me, one pair extra underwear, one pair extra socks, raingear, S&W 340PD, maps, some basic tools, credit card, cell phone.

Week + = double above (except only have 1 Smith) for every 4 days. Max 2 total jeans. If I need to smell nice or look pretty I'm in the wrong f'ing place.

We travel all over the country, and while we avoid "dangerous" places, like inner city ghetto's, the only time I even came close to thinking about pulling out a gun was on a two lane dirt road out in the middle of nowhere. In Maine, of all places! A couple of local "good ole boys" decided to mess with the "bikers" in their territory. Never got past some verbal threats (by them, we were only polite and tried to defuse the situation). When they realized we were not intimidated by them, they left. Of course, one reason we were not intimidated was that we knew we could defend ourselves if we had too.

Besides the personal protection aspect, I enjoy target shooting. I burn up at least several hundred rounds a month poking holes in paper and tin cans. In our travels we plan on visiting some friends who also enjoy target shooting, so we plan on doing some shooting with them.

We avoid places where we might have to leave the guns with the bikes, but I do have a safe in inside my saddlebag for those occasions.
http://consolevault.com/harley-david...ger-vault.html.
Check it out, it also prevents someone from just stealing the whole saddlebag.
