The wife and I are headed west in early June. Pulling from Oklahoma City, OK to Flagstaff, AZ for 2 days riding and back to NM for another day. These are the routes I have planned. Any accommodations, sights, modifications, or suggestions would be appreciated.
We plan on riding during the week so the weekenders and traffic will be lighter.
How is Grand Canyon and Sedona Traffic during the week days?
Tenitive plan:
Saturday: Pull to Alburquerque, NM (8hr pull), check in and ride to dinner and around the town area, load up scoot and bed.
Sunday: Pull to Flagstaff, check in and relax for the next day.
All of your routes look very doable. The Santa Fe loop is very similar to ones the locals ride
pretty often. Rt 502 is a very nice road and it's tempting to cruise at a comfortable speed
above the limit but keep in mind that the local sheriff's department makes some serious
bucks on that section....
Also be aware that gas stations can be a bit spotty at times through all these areas so stop
every hundred or so miles to top off just to make sure that you don't get pinched for gas.
In the event you are in Sedona for lunch, eat at the airport. You sit atop a Mesa, watch the planes take off and land, and the mountains are all around you. Nice scenery.
Ahh the joys of dreaming of those summer rides during sometimes dreary days of winter. Those look like beautiful rides, and I am sure the southwest won't disappoint. Ride safe and give us updates this summer on the rides.
