The wife and I are gonna fly and ride this year to California. My question is, how many days do i need to plan for in Yosemite. I've heard its beautiful and the pictures look like it. Only got a week and I'm trying to plan the trip around Yosemite and seeing friends. Any help and first hand experience would be aprreciated. I have done the Beartooth pass and i am really hoping it is comparable, know what i mean.
Yosemite is awe inspiring. I've been through it or stayed there a couple dozen times. Been on the bike there twice. You could probably ride through most of the park in a day if you didn't stop to take pictures or such. Two days of riding and gazing will get you through most of park and it's sights. Glacier Point is a must see. Mariposa Grove at the south end is good for the extra large trees. Tioga Pass is at the east entrance and makes a nice ride. You can head down to the Mono Lake area and get food and gas in Lee Vining on 395. Yosemite Valley is good to cruise through. If you like hiking you can hike to Half Dome and walk up the back side. Plan on taking more pictures than you ever have in one park. Have fun.
Yosemite is amazing but crowded,3 or 4 days you can see just about everything. The hike up half dome is a full day +. As stated above Glacier point, Mariposa grove are a must see. If it's hot rent a innertube and float down the river.
If you want to see some amazing sights that are full of natural wonder go to the Banff and Jasper I tell people the Canadain Rockies are Yosemite on steriods.
It is truly beautiful and awe-inspiring. Avoid holiday weekends at all costs. I spent almost a full day looking for the little sherriff with the red handlebar mustache...never did see him...Sam was his name I think...
Been a few years since I did this trip but I pestered the dealership out of Modesto to see if they had any rides, any suggestions and eventually they hooked me up with the local Wind & Fire MC President. I ended up spending a full day with he and about 3-4 others on a "guided" ride around the park.
My wife and I stayed the night in Bishop,CA then got up....packed up the softail and rode to Mammouth Lakes for breakfast. From there it was on up 395 to Lee Vinning then west to Yosemite. We spent the better part of the day riding Yosemite, stopping to take photos, then rode to the bottom for a few souvenirs and a cool drink. Then back on the bike and rode through the park retracing our route leaving beautiful Yosemite in our mirrors. Back down the hill to 395 then north to Walker,CA where we spent the night. It was a full day, but we weren't rushed. Enjoy your trip, and ride safe.

Never seen Beartooth, would sure like to, so can't compare "yet"
I live about 50 miles west of Yosemite and on a clear day can see Half Dome from my back yard.
When are you going to be going to the park? Glacier Point road and Tioga Pass are not open year round.
You can see the best of it in a day, you can spend a month and not see it all.
If you are coming out of Modesto and want to do a day trip I would be glad to ride with you.
bigsnak, I think a lot depends on what you and your wife want out of your visit. Like others have said, you could hit most of the major "attractions" in a long day or spend 2 or 3 days and maybe hike around some of the trails, get close to the waterfalls, etc...
However long you decide to stay, try to go during the week as it will be more crowded on the weekends.
A seldom-visited area of Yosemite is Hetch Hetchy. It's not too far from the Valley and well worth the trip, IMHO. The resemblance to Tunnel View is striking.
Here's a link to a little trip report from last year.
Like others have said the Tioga Pass entrance and onto Toulumne Meadows should not be missed. If you can, plan on eating breakfast at the Toulumne Meadows Grill. Another great place to eat is the deli @ the Mobil Station in Lee Vining. Here's a great site for Yosemite.... http://www.yosemitefun.com/index.htm
