I think you mean decreasing radius. It gets tighter and tighter as you go into it...

The Dragon is fun but most of your day will be in the Smokeys. The Skyway is great. I have been all over and it's a place I always want to go back to. Great riding.

OKAY...

1. Watch out for other riders...CHECK.

2. Start ride out EARLY...CHECK.

3. Take my time...CHECK.

4. Be careful in turns, especially the decreasing radius turns...CHECK.

Well I'm looking forward to the adventure! I think I'll hit the Skyway FIRST then do the Dragon..

I REALLY appreciate every one of y'alls input!

Been on the Dragon at all times of the day......
from sunrise to 2 hrs after sunset.......
.When it's busy, I find a good turn out and watch the show for about an hour... it's interesting

The Dragon is a fun ridebut there are hundreds of other roads toride in the area. I used America Rides maps to plan a few different days of riding in the week we were there last year.
Highway 28 going away from the dragon is a nice ride also.

Maybe I do mean decreasing insted of descending radius. Glad you understood what I really meant was the turns get tighter, not a constant radius, but it was an engineer that I first heard use the term to describe the "decreasing" radius curves. Looks like I might've followed a bad lead.

Been to the Dragon and Cherohala seven times, all on sportbikes. The adrenaline is out of this world. They do have decending/decreasing radius turns. You expect it on the Dragon, but there is one nasty curve on the Cherohala that can sneak up on you. Its at mile marker 10 going towards NC from Tenn. It decends alot steeper than expected, and decreases at the same time. That road invites you to push your limits, just keep that in your file. I have grown up now, and it will be interesting going there on my Sportster in April. Getting out of bed is dangerous, so enjoy yourself, and ride your own pace. Post your ride report when you get back.

The first time I ever heard the term was on a display at the visitors center on the parkway. It was a warning to motorcyclist.
There is definitely a curve like that on the parkway. I met some people that lost it in a car on that curve. It had happened the night before. They were there with the wrecker and cops to get the car back up the mountain.

I think the visitors center was at Bald Rock ****??

Default Other dangers

I went there and rode it one way and had a good time. Going back, got behind a truck pulling an RV and it got hot, and started puking out oil or tranny fluid, but we were about 4 cars behind it and didn't know that, only saw the smoke billowing out. All of a sudden, my rear tire went east as I was going west, and if I had not been going so slow because of the RV, I would have gone into the opposing lane and only can imagine the consequences. As it was, my rear tire caught good road, and I managed to maintain shiny side up. Later that day, we heard that many riders went down on that corner due to oil or tranny fluid. Have fun but be watchful.
