Heading there this summer as part of my ride down and back on on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Saw this posted yesterday and was ready to leave now, but guess I'll wait til June/July. Plan to hit the Cherohala and The Dragon during midweek to avoid traffic.
I've spent most of the day searching for a cheaper deal than I found last year. Spent a week in a 2 bedroom, 2 bath house with garage for $350. I found one for $325.00 but no garage or A/C.
The drive way is kinda spooky but looks like the best deal around.
Can't wait for the end of June to get here.
Living close to both rides I find the Dragon to be more crotch rockets
than the Skyway, but the Skyway seems to have more sports car traffic.
On both rides you have to be sure to stay in your lane & be alert. The
Skyway is a much more scenic ride.It is mine & mama's favorite day ride.
We ride it several times a year.
my wife and i have been on both the cherohala and the dragon try the moonshiner 28. the intersection is right by the gas station on the dragon. waterfalls nice road you will be glad you did.also foothills parkway.any road in the area has to be good.

Big + to this. I never heard about the moonshiner 28 unitl the dragon was closed last year because of the rock slide. The locals started telling everyone to come anyway and ride the moonshier 28. Not exactly the same as the dragon, but just as good in it's own way and better in others.
I really believe there is no bad road in that area. You'd have to ride a hundred miles or more to get out of paradise.
Thanks for more good suggestions! Actually...the Tail of the Dragon is now down on my list of priorities. As y'all are saying....looks like LOTS of great rides in that area! I think I can make a little loop and cover a good part of the Moonshiner 28....
I figure it will take me the better part of 03/26 to get TO the area...then I'll ride 27th and 28th and head back on the 29th....

Don't forget the cold weather gear. Last year on 3/28 I was just passing through and ended up riding in snow.
