Thinking about a trip up to ride it again, did it last year at the BBB and really enjoyed it. My question is if we wanted to just camp does anyone know of a good area and also I can not for the life of me remember the exact highways the Pig Trail is, any help?
There's camping around beaver lake between Rogers and Eureka Springs not sure about the quality, but should be good. Also camping south of Fayetteville at Devil's den state park. i think there are several roads in that area that are considered the pig trail.. Hiway 62 between rogers and eureka springs, hiway 23 from eureka springs to I-40, and US 71 from I-40 to rogers......Just got back from Eureka springs sunday, my first time in that area. didn't ride the scoot but i will go back on it later.......some good 2 wheel riding, very steep, twisties....
I think there are some camp grounds on the south end of the Pig Trail (HWY 23) around Cass AR...and like ZUTEDUFF said there are several camp grounds around the lake from Fayetteville to Rogers and Eureka Springs. There are other rides to take also...HWY 7 is a good ride too..
The "official" Pig Trail is Hwy 23 from Ozark, Arkansas to about the junction of 16 highway at Brashears, Arkansas. Unofficially, it's 23 Hwy from Ozark to up around Eureka Springs. The "official" section of road got its name from the fact that indeed it WAS a pig trail during the 1880's-to the early part of the 20th century. The hillbilly's hearded their pigs to the railroad at Ozark and sent them off to market.
There is camping at Byrd's Camp, a few miles east of Cass on Hwy 215. It is an acceptibly nice facility. I have utilized Byrd's for three annual dirt bike events I attended a few years back. Riding from Byrd's Camp to BBB would take you about an hour, I would hazard to guess. BUT... it will be a great ride!
Wife and I intend to do the Pig Trail from our home in Poteau, OK to Eureka Springs and back this Saturday. Got an urge for some Bubba's BBQ.
Edit: Lottsa' luck on Devil's Den. During the warmer months, that place is over run with HORDES of people.
