Laughlin River Run 2011
To think, I almost didn't bring my jacket as space was at a premuim and my bags were full.
I overheard a vendor tell a customer that this is the 4th best attended event and easily the best in the west.
Anyway, I enjoyed the area. I visited Oatman, which is super cool. I took the road from Kingman and it had a lot of twist's and turns and elevation changes. Visited the Kingman HD dealer for the band and River Run celebration, which was on the dull side. Not much going on their.
crappy vendors and no real reason to hang around. I blew out after 20 minutes. Again, cold and windy.
The "Fun Ride" car show in Kingman was going on simultaneously and it was pretty cool. It had a lot of old muscle cars and custom restorations.
The manager at the hotel I stayed in said this is the first time in 10 years that they had to have the heat on at the hotel. In the past I've went and it was always very warm and borderline hot.
Let me say this. I live in Phoenix and this trip confirmed that I would much rather ride in 110 degrees than 60-70. I hate the cold and high winds. This trip with no windshield, no chaps, no leather jacket.
One thing I did notice are all the beautiful bikes from California. Man, those dudes can fab and customize bikes. I mean stunning bikes all over and mostly from California. Plus the Apes some of them sport. I mean 16" are for beginners, they were all 18-20+ and looked awesome.
The people - everyone was real cool and I saw no trouble or hostility. I was shocked to see the Las Vegas SWAT team show up at Aquarius. Assault gear, Assault truck and weapons. They had these thugs posted around the the premises and just staring down the riders. This was clearly a show of force and it was BS to parade them and make sure you saw and were intimidated.
I'd go again, but not next year.
