Stayed in Townsend at the Gateway Inn on the Tenn side of Smoky Mtns park last year when 129 was still closed due to the rockslide... Very nice, super clean, friendly place... It's an easy trip on the Foothills Pkwy to the Dragon, but we had to take the scenic route which is 73 & 441 through the park... great scenic ride... be sure and hit 28 also.
Im going to take the Wife on a 4 day trip to ride those famous Tenn. and N.C. roads the first week of June. I live in Ohio and have never been there. I have done some searching on this forum and found some suggestions, but most posts talk about which roads to ride which has been very helpful.
I would like suggestions based on experiences of those who have their favorite places to stay in the area. Im looking for something thats biker friendly, close to the Dragon and the Skyway and that is not too expensive. My Wife wants a pool or a hot tub! Some of the Biker motels Ive looked at dont have pools and I want her to enjoy herself so she will want to take more trips with me. I have a 2010 Road King and we are new to Touring. Thanks in Advance!
I would consider the Townsend area. Its about 8 miles from Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area. Also close to Cades Cove and about 15 miles to the Dragon, the Cherohola Skyway is just the other side of the dragon. My wife and I have stayed there the last 2 years. We rented cabins, most have hot tubs and some have pool access. They are many nice hotels also. We just like the privacy of the cabin, if you know what I mean. Prices are reasonable around $100-150 a night. The area is away from the touristy crap, but close enough to everything. All the roads are fun to ride. We love it there!
Here's a nice Cabin in Tounsend we've stayed at many times. Very nice and not too expensive. Doesn't have a Hot Tub or pool though. Got wireless internet!
Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg is the Myrtle Beach of the mountains. You really want to impress the wife.....rent a cabin in that area....we loved it....many have the hot bath on the balcony with great views of the mountains.
I have stayed at the Ironhorse Motorcycle Resort it is very nice it is in Stecoah NC. Just on 28 on the NC side of the Dragon. Also there is a place i believe its the Watershed Cabins in Stecoah area very good places. Very nice places.
I stayed here last year. It is "in the mountains" between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Place is beautiful. Hot tub on the wrap around porch. We loved it. People that own it are super nice and easy to work with
i stayed in maggie vally and gatlinburg,if ya like it kinda queit and rural maggie valley was nice but gatlinburg was nice for a rain day able to walk to plenty of eatin and drinkin.
