What a trip!
Got back this afternoon from our rocky mountain trip. Basically Rye to Amarillo, Pueblo, Grand Junction, Durango, Albuquerque, Amarillo and back home. Eight days, 2600 miles, five winerys. We crossed the Red River twice, the Rio Grande once, the continental divide twice. We went from elevations of 600 ft to 13,000 ft; experienced snow, rain and wind ranging from 10 mph to 70 mph. We felt temperatures ranging from 30 deg in the mountains to 100 deg in the plains.
The bike ran great, averaging 42 mpg pulling the trailer. It didn't miss a beat, drop any parts on the road, break a belt or leak any oil. I did have a flat on the trailer, only a minor problem. I had a spare and tools to change it.
We stayed in some good motels along the way, talked to a lot of interesting old guys and gals that were all too happy to tell you their story.
We only spent about $1500 on the trip, and can't see where we may have skimped out on a good time.
We are happy to be home. My chair, my TV, my beer. I hope all of you enjoy your vacation as much as we did.

Next time you're up this way, take Hwy 69 from Walsenburg - Westcliffe - Salida...it's one of the prettier rides and a huge shortcut from I-25 to Hwy 50.

Man, I saw you but I was a bit busy with traffic and all that I had to keep going. One question though.......How the hell do you people breathe up there?

Great to read this as the wife and i are leaving July 1st and riding to Colorado Springs then on up to Rapid City and around the badlands. Was trying to figure out the cost of our trip.

Did I say anything about the meadery (honey wine makers, good stuff Robin Hood), distillery and a brewery? Clifton, Co is a town of my kind of people. At least we had a designated driver.
