Default Pacific Coast Highway ride

Did the 10K service on my Ultra yesterday. I was careful to check any fastener and not just those on the critical fastener list. Did the trans fluid also. Then I took it out for a shake down ride and it went well.

The only thing loose was one of the foot pegs that I installed last year on the engine guards. I must be slipping.

Changed the brake fluid in the reservoir also and adjusted the clutch. I did not clean the bike as it appears from Saturday on when we leave, it will be raining all the way to Washington.

My son and I will do all interstate from here to Seattle so we should make good time.

The first stop will be in Chamberlain S.D. then Butte Mont. where we will meet up with another son.

My two sons and I do at least one long adventure ride each year. I'm 70 and am trying to hit all 48 lower states by the end of next year.

We haven't planned what we will do on the way done. We will just see what's there and do what turns up.

I developed a method of taking the oldest socks, t-shirts and underwear then throwing away the used each night. So the load gets less as time goes on. If we go longer than planned, I just hit Walmart for a cheap batch.

Bags will be packed tomorrow from a list I made over the years. I used to take too much and now I have it down to minimal.

I don't even need to take a camera. My oldest son takes a zillion shots and sends me a DVD copy. I don't like how much he takes pictures while riding but I quit giving advise to my sons when they left home to be on their own. Only if they ask now and that is rare.

Anyone have some must not miss things on the PCH? Good places to eat or interesting things to see?

Default Good day, L. Pacific Coast Hwy.....

Hope you won't be disappointed. As far as my opinion goes; it's really overrated.
Just a couple of suggestions:
1) Take in Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park WA state peninsula - well worth the time and effort....

2) Ride out to Neah Bay; watch out for logging trucks - stay on YOUR side of the yellow line

3) You could start your PCH experience at Astoria, Oregon and not really miss anything.

4) Forks in WA State has a couple of good diners and motels, the parking lots (locals only) will show you which ones they are.

Ride In Peace

I do the Oregon stretch of the PCH, from Astoria to Crescent City, at least once a year. Lots of twisties, good views, and some damn good food all the way down.

I'll echo one thing t059736 said...stay on your side of the yellow line all the way down the PCH. School just let out, so every RV in the state is headed to the beach. Most of 'em haven't driven anything bigger than the daily driver all year long.

While passing through Oregon, take a mini detour to Crater Lake. It's on my bucket lust. My buddy did 30+ states including Alaska last year and crater lake was his favorite site.

Head north off I90 to Wenatchee and over the North Cascades Pass, beautiful ride! The Olympic Peninsula is a great ride particularly the ride to Neah Bay. Problem there is it's a dead end that drops you into a major **** hole (Neah Bay). The bay is beautiful but an about face greets you with run down mobile homes and general trash. Even staying on I90 you get to see the different climates of Washington, a little desert around Quincy, Snoqualmie Pass and Seattle. You will have to cross the sound to see the rain forest though. Have fun and ride safe!

Edit....Forgot to ask, where does a person get the maps like you have in your avitar?

So you're planning to knock off the 3 white states you have on the west side of you map? You'll have a good trip. redwoods, crater lake. Remember to come back to this thread when you get home and post a few pics.
