One of my favorite ways to travel. I may have missed it, but how far down the PCH are you planning to ride? One of my sons and I did San Fran to LA last year. He's active duty Army (Explosive Ordnance Disposal), so I love getting a trip in with him whenever I can. Here's a shot of him at the Bixby bridge south of Carmel along the PCH ...

Here's another shot of the ocean at the bridge. I include this one because it's as nice as the bridge itself.

If you're going to make it that far south then consider the Lucia Lodge near Big Sur. It's right on the ocean. We paid about $180/night for a cabin that slept 4, which was the number in our group. That came out to less than $50/person, so it was a good deal -- especially for that area. And the views from the veranda are outstanding.

Be sure to take the time to get off the road as well. We almost rode past this lighthouse. It was a short distance off the highway on what started as a paved road and ended with a dirt road. We were able to get right down next to the beach (and on it) at this point and many others along the road.

You can probably tell that I liked the light houses along the route. Here's one at Point Arena (north of SF).

I like Bodega Bay. Been to Diekman's Baystore a couple times while there. A good place to buy some bait/tackle and get a deli sandwich.

I also liked the area around Eureka, CA.

When you get to Oric in Oregon, you better stop in and try the Mexican restaurant. 12 11 37 Hwy 101 is the address I think it was...
This place is super clean, really friendly and the food is both inexpensive and plentifull. Did I mention they are friendly and the food is great ??
The state park employees and other locals are plentifull as well during lunch hour.
For Coastal Oregon, make sure your wet weather gear is handy as there can be cool mist or dense fog during the early part of the day or in the evening, and when heading through the Red-Wood forest out of Crescent City Ca. it can be down right cold!!!
Be prepared for hi speeds when approaching San Fransico on Hwy 101.We where Southbound from about 100 miles out and being passed like we where standing still. We where doing 85+ Mph btw. Same for going over the Golden Gate Bridge too.
Of course this depends whether or not you are planning to ride into San Fran.
Just my .02 on lots of things to see along the coast.
Rob

Awesome photos from your trip. I've did the pch in a car, but not on a bike. It's on my bucket list.

zeus33 - Exactly. My goal when I retired was to get all 49 states and Canadian provinces. The route was secondary. But the PCH is a good way to achieve all three states.

For Sturgis, Iam going strait north to Canada and cross two provinces and drop down to Spearfish then Strurgis.
