Default Coronado Trail

Heading up to Pinetop Arizona this weekend via Highway 191, the Coronado Trail, formerly known as hwy. 666, the Devil's Hwy. Can hardly wait, one of the top 20 rides in the US. It will be the first time this year, but definitely not the last!

My buddies and I did this last weekend. We went South to North and spent the night in Alpine at the Tal Wi Wi Lodge. We do this ride every year and this is the first time we didn't get wet.

I recommend PJ's in Clifton if you're hungry. The food is excellent.

Rode the Coronado the day before the big fire. Made it to Sedona and a lot of fire trucks were headed that way. One of the top 4 to 5 rides I've taken. Did the area recover OK?

Yeah, it's ok, you can still see lots of evidence of the devastation.

I did this ride, this Memorial Day weekend. I went from north to south (have the sunburn to prove it). The fire damage is very apparent between Alpine to Hannagan Meadow. The Morenci mine was a spectacle as well as a sad reminder of the destruction man does to the planet. Overall it was an awesome ride for me. I rode the Salt river canyon via US60 from the Phoenix area to Show Low where I spent the night. The Days Inn had the lowest weekend rate in the area (even lower if you can get the govt rate) and although it is quite dated it was clean and comfortable. It has a bar/lounge with a sports bar/restaurant across the street.

First trip to Arizona on a motorcycle was an eyeopener. We did the Coronado Trail just cause. It is an incredible road. Coming over the mountains into Jerome at sunset was a view one cannot appreciate until you have seen it. Sedona at sunrise and sunset is spiritual.

Just got back from the trip. First of all Coronado Trail does not go near Jerome. Next, the devastation from the fire is still very apparent. Saw one fairly large fire to the west. Stopped off at Hannigan's Meadow for lunch and then on to Pinetop. Great prime rib dinner at Charlie Clark's. Got up early and came home through Salt River Canyon. Small brush fire on Hwy. 77 about two miles north of Winkleman. 570 miles in two days, no iron butt for sure, but a good couple day ride.

Just saying on our first trip to Arizona we were lucky enough to do the Coronado Trail and then meander over to Phoenix. Then we hit 89A north through Jerome and into Sedona. Arizona has some of the greatest motorcycle rides in the country. Sorry I didn't communicate well.

Did this with my Son In Law last year. Had a blast. The mining pit was a great place to have a flat.. oh sorry rest. Had to make an emergency tire repair there.
I would caution new riders with this one to take it easy. Lots of pull offs some with rest rooms but they can be loose gravel and uneven ground. They just fixed the road worms and makes for an interesting ride.
I'll hit this one every time I'm there.
