Planning a trip to Door County in mid Augest, looking for a great place to stay. Old lady needs all the comforts of home and I would like a place with a pub and a good steak...
The Edgewater in Ephriam and the Ashbrook in Egg harbor are great places to stay, as fro steak that is a tough one, we go for the local fish, most places have their version of a fish boil on the weekends
white gull inn in fish creek, the fish boil is something you need to experience. door county is only about 15 miles wide and 60-70 miles ling so getting from one place to the next isn't a problem. bars are plentiful so that shouldn't be a problem. start calling now for reservations as the door is a huge tourist destination. if you can't get a room anywhere in door county, green bay has lots of rooms available. and it's only 40 miles from sturgeon bay which is right in the middle of door county.
I was just there this weekend. Stayed at the Ashbrooke in Egg Harbor. Nice place: clean with large rooms and nice parking (a plus). No food there but right next door is the Village Cafe for great breakfast. There are several places just a few blocks away in Egg Harbor. There are lots of supper clubs in the Door. I personally think the best is Greenwood Supper Club on A. Fantastic. If you get the rib eye, tell them not cover it in au jus, it 's too "wet" Their steaks and fish are great.
Another great place, don't laugh, is the Sister Bay Bowl. It is a 4 lane bowling alley with a great restaurant. Best broasted chicken in the world. Another really nice place is just "kaddy corner" from the Sister Bay Bowl: the Mission. A bit pricier but great food. I usually have two or three of their "small plates" Saturday had the small plate of scallops , caesar salad and , yes, wonderful mac and cheese.
You have to have a waffle cone ice cream at Wilson's in Ephraim.
Picture is from the bon fires in Ephraim Harbor last Saturday
Enjoy your ride!!!
