Still, an awful lot of Interstate riding. I was thinking that maybe east of the Mississippi a roughly perimeter route might be worth considering.... especially in the, East and South. In my travels in those regions I've found, with some exceptions, that the more interesting places, cuisine and local brews tend to be near the coast line. Often inland, things seem to get more basic..although there is a certain amount of charm to that, too.
My wife and i just got back from a Motor Maid convention. One of the ladies there did an Iron Butt 48 States in 13 days. I am sure the route is on line on their site.

There is an IBA ride called the 48/10, referring to states/days. Go to the IBA blog website, no need to be a member to search posts. They have plenty of routes planned, but they obviously stress distance and time, ie, highways.
