There was another post in this section in the last couple of weeks or so that had some very good info and suggestions here. Check it out for ideas of things to do and eat. My personal short list of things to do in New Orleans are breakfast at Cafe' Du Monde for beignets, the National WWII museum, a walk around Jackson Square, and a streetcar ride down St. Charles through the Garden District. I only get into New Orleans proper maybe once or twice a year, but when I do, those are always my favorite things I like to do if possible.

Try to get a bed and breakfast in the MArigny district north of the French Quarter. Much more laid-back atmosphere..

Because of weather we went to Gulf Shores first then down the coast. The trip was great until we got to New Orleans. The French Quarter smelled like open sewer, there was no way I would eat or drink anything from down there, It looks like a third world country and smells worse!

Actually if you hit other area's around the city French Quarter included and stay away from the tourist trap area's you would find some great times. Food and drink in New Orleans is great. However the city does get trashed by visitors a lot. I used to live in the FQ and really enjoyed it for years. But I got tired of the Jack ***'s that would pee in my doorway, sing as loud as they could in the middle of the street at 4 AM, one morning some moron climbed to my second floor balcony and passed out sometime in the middle of the night, and many other things. I agree Bourbon Street smells and looks like crap as dp some other area's. You ever come back down again and I'll steer you to some great place's and people.

Two great things in Mobile. Bellingrath Gardens which is not only a great stop but a good ride. It is on the west side of the bay. Exit 13 off of Interstate 10. A better ride is Highway 90 though from New Orleans to Mobile. Just be carefull on Highway 90. You can ride south from the garden to Dauphin Island. They used to have a ferry to take you to Gulf Shores.

I would not take the ferry. Go back to Mobile and the USS Alabama is a great site to see. If you have the time a tour is great. Once you go through Mobile on take exit 35. Highway 90/98 and go south. There is a Harley place at the exit. Take Highway 98 and then Highway 98A until you get to Foley and then head south to Gulf Shores. Watch for cops. Most of this area on Highway 98A has homes used in Southern Living magazines and other magazines. Really nice!

Not sure but check the Blue Angels site. You are not far from Pensacola. I believe on Tuesday or Wednesday at 9 in the morning they practice. It is awesome! Plus the museum there is fantastic. Just make sure you have helmets, long sleeves, and gloves or they will not let you get through the front gate. Have fun!
