In a few weeks we're leaving with 5 bikes to spend 6 or 7 days through southern Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. Not sure if we'll make it into Mass or not. From the St Stephen/Calais border we'll head along the ME coast for the first 2 days. Being from NB, we're pretty familiar with our nearest neighbour (neighbor) and have been through parts of NH (mostly White Mtns area) and VT (Rtes 4 and 7). Can anybody suggest some "must sees" off of the beaten trail in these states, or not too far away into Mass?
I've been to HD in Meridith, NH - great store! Are there any other HD dealers in these states that it would be tantamount to a deadly sin to pass by without making a stop?
I'm leaving this Saturday morning for a week. I'm meeting my father in Bangor ME, and we have no set agenda for the week. We'll head in the general direction of Southern NH, Western Mass and Western Conn. Should be a great ride.
We plan on visiting Bar Harbor and then Wells/Kennebunk/Ogunquit areas. After that ????? No reservations anywhere because we don't know where we'll be when. Have a good, safe trip and post back on where you visited, what you saw.
Take your time going through Bucksport-Camden-Rockland, very nice scenery. There's a nice little auto-road in Camden that brings you to a look-off over the town. It's worth the $9 to go up. All paved and in good shape. Went up with my wife on back.
My wife and I rode 883 miles, 5 states in 4 days. Left NY, went through Vermont, New Hampshire, up to Old Orchard Beach Maine, back down to Salem Mass, then home. We highly recommend some covered bridges and historic towns. Salem was awesome! I even enjoyed it. We both liked Salem over Old Orchard Beach. We stayed at the Salem Inn!!!!!
Heavy D - Yeah, been through Rockland Camden before but haven't done the auto road thing there. Might look into that.
Swamphunter - Going to look into Salem after reading your post. Any other worthwhile places to visit?
