Your best chance of seeing anything amazing is the u.p. I'm planning a ride there in a month myself. Have fun though. And check out some of our delicious mi micro brews if you get a chance.

The west side along Lake Michigan is a nice Ride. Out of Indiana you can take Red Arrow Highway, brings you up through New Buffalo and Lakeside, stay on it all the way through the St. Joseph Area, taking Blue Star (m63) Highway out of St. Joseph to South Haven, up to Saugatuck.

Run 31 through Holland and Grand Haven. Just north of Muskegon, catch Holton Road and wind through the Manistee National Park to Baldwin. Run 10 back to 31 in Manistee and follow it North through Frankfort, Beulah, up to Empire and the Sleeping Bear Dunes.

Run m72 out of Empire through Traverse City and catch 31 again headed through Elk Rapids and Charlevoix, Petoskey the Mackinaw City.

It's not Sturgis or Yellowstone, but it's a nice ride..........one I plan on making the 23rd of next month, except we will also drop down to Flint for the Bikes on the Bricks Ralley.

Have a great time.

If you're coming up the west side and don't have time to ride the shoreline all the way up, take I-196 up to Holland and US 31 up to Manistee. When you get to the north end of town, take a left at the (big) casino (M-110?) to M-22 which will take you up and around the Leelanau peninsula to Traverse City. You can continue to ride the shoreline or take US 31 the rest of the way to the Mackinac bridge. When you're in the UP, you can ride up to Paradise and lake Superior or take US 2 along the northern lake Michigan shoreline. I love that road. There are lots of good places to stop along the route(s) I described.

That's a nice ride. check out Tosi's Italian restaurant near St Josephs.
http://www.yelp.com/biz/tosis-restaurant-stevensville. Traverse City , Charlevoix, Petoskey, beautiful and people are nice.

Why do you say that? Doesn't look like you've ridden in our neck of the woods.

I agree. I rode 75 from toledo to mackinaw city and it was depressing and construction sucked.now the u.p. west along route 2 wasn't bad.fresh air and plenty of road.
