I still remember my first one I did on my 05 883C Sportster. Some guy on A Goldwing was bitching about his cd player not working and saying how it was going to be a long ride without it.

Wow, I just finished up a 3500 mile ride (of which the IB leg was the last portion) and didn't have any music at all. Forgot my damn headphones and had to go without for a week

On another note, I know there was a guy that participated in the Iron Butt rally, the 10 day one, on a ninja 250 a few years back.

I couldn't ever do this. I'd be put in jail. It would start out nice, but I'd eventually start speeding up to get it over with and that would be that...

Congrats - did you do the saddle sore or the bunn burner?? I did mine in June... I was amazed at how fast it did go. I did the first 1000 in 15 hours 40 min.. ate dinner, rested then did the last 500 in 8 hours - doing the bun burner 1500. I was thinking of trying the bun burner gold but doing the 1500 miles in 24 hours would have made me ride welll into the night durning the last several 100 miles - for me it wasn't worth the risk..

Now these guys/gals that do the 10/10 = I tip my hat to all of you... amazing

Watch out, like it was said before, it gets addicting.......I'm currently working on the National Parks Tour.....I'm at 22 states and 38 parks and have till April 2012 to finish. An Ironbutt ride on a sporty 883? Some people are nuts......

Congratulations!

Both of those are on my list. I still have to do my official SS1000 to get into the club (or just start tallying all my park rides up), and then hit the lottery or something so I can take the required time off work to travel to all the parks. I am definitely looking into the 10 in 10 or something similar though... Yeah, you're right they get addicting...

Thanks guys. I did it on my 1996 FLSTN. It took me 21 hrs, but I had a little bike trouble at my turnaround point. I filled her up, then she wouldn't start. So I let the bike sit in the shade for about 30 minutes, as the oil temp was at 230 (it was over 100 deg that day). I limped it to the hd dealer in North Platte for some more cool off time in the shade while I wandered around looking at the new bikes. I decided to take US30 home to take it easy, but it probably added a good 3 hrs to my time. I'd do again in a heartbeat.

I'm past the age when I think I can safely do an iron butt but if I were to do it, I would probably do a Denver to Milwaukee for some Harley event. That's 1,043 miles. Nice way to arrive. A friend did that last year and hit thunderstorms, so he didn't get in until real late. But he made it.

Nice. I had every intention of doing one on my way home from Sturgis but with a late start and a hangover, I only make it 750.

Maybe next year!
