Default Texas Hill Country

Need advice on Texas hill country. I will need advice on where to stay, good rides for the days and a few good honky tonks for the nights. If you can help with a few good country eating restaurants, please no gourmet.
Looking at leaving Lafayette Louisiana Oct. 6 and returning Oct. 9
Thanks

I suggest getting a Butler Motorcycle Map of the Texas Hill Country.
QR codes if you have a smart phone gives you a ton of info.

Heavyhitter01 posted a great link above. Be sure and include that loop of FM (Farm to Market) roads west of Leakey (pronounced Lakey) consisting 335, 336 and 337. Fine riding all over the Hill Country but that loop is a must, IMO. You might like staying in Bandera...check it out on line. Otherwise, Kerrville and Fredericksburg are good towns. If you get up to Llano be sure and hit Coopers for some great Texas BBQ.

Lafayette to the Hill Country has to be a 7 or 8 hour ride one way so you really only have the 7th and 8th......you'll still get a good taste of the fine riding in that area.

edit: I'm reminded that in that part of Texas 335, 336 and 337 are "Ranch Roads" not "Farm to Market" roads.

Yeah, I used to live in Austin and now l am back outside of Lafayette. In a car you can make it in 6 hours, but all the times I have made the trip by bike it has taken 7-8 hours depending on how often you like to stop and whether you take the slab or back roads. By bike I usually get off of I-10 in Beaumont and take 105 to go through Cleveland and Conroe and catch 290 at Brenham. Yeah, I hate Houston with a passion.

If you are staying in Austin, a couple of eateries I recommend are the Hula Hut in Lake Austin, think TexMex/Polynesian, with a nice view of the lake amongst other things. Also County Line BBQ on FM 2222, I'm not an expert on Texas BBQ by any means & others may have better suggestions, but I like this place a lot, it sits on Bull Creek, which is probably bone dry right now with the drought. The Oasis has the best view of Lake Travis, but other than the drinks, everything else on the menu seems to have been an afterthought. Carlos and Charlies also on Lake Travis is a cool place to have some adult beverages and a bite to eat. If you a breakfast person, Juan in a Millions has the best breakfast tacos and burritos in Texas, bring an appetite.

I've wanted to ride that area for a long time, now planning to ride over early November with a group going to the Lone Star Rally in Galveston. I'm not interested in big rallies, so when they stop I'll just keep going solo. No firm plans yet on where to go, where to stay, when to get home... advantage of being retired(!)

I'm not a BBQ expert either, but I can second eating at Cooper's BBQ in Llano and at the County Line outside Austin. I did some nice riding in the TX Hill Country (rented a sportster from Cowboy Harley in south Austin last December). Fredericksburg is a neat little town to visit while you're riding out there.

Great area to ride. The missus and I made that ride a couple of years ago. Try your best not to drive at night, and keep your radar up during the day. Lots of deer and hogs running around.
