It's a nice area. The town of Jackson is pricey.
If you really want to see some good riding areas in Wyoming try the Beartooth Pass, Chief Joseph Pass and the Bighorn Mountains Scenic Byway.
I live in Wyoming and worked I Jackson for a couple months. Skidder's suggestions are spot on. The trip there was awesome! Beautiful place. And he's right, things are quite spendy there. We called it the Jackson markup! Beware of road construction though. The mountain pass was breathtaking and would've been great on the bike but they have the pass so torn up it will take them a while to finish it.
Spent the night there last summer, went thru the Teatons and Yellowstone, nice riding, buffalo grazing on the shoulder didn't seem to mind my exhaust noise.
I have been through there many times in a car, never on a bike. A few buddies and I are planning a ride from Phoenix to Durango, up the western side of CO to Wyoming, over to Jackson and Yellowstone to Bozeman, then west to the the Biterroot Mountains and south through Idaho and Utah and back to Phoenix for next summer.
I have stayed at West Yellowstone, Mt twice. Reservations needed. Great little tourist town to stay in. Faber claims that there is prostitution there. I either didn't see it or I was culled by the prostitutes. Town is right on the edge of the park. Many days of good riding. Red Lodge looks like a nice town to stay in. Cody Wy. is good.
Outstanding riding in this area, for sure. You can stay outside of Jackson for a lot less money -- Alpine, WY is where we have stayed in the past. I have a buddy that loves a place down in Thayne, but I've never stayed in that place. Faber can definitely give you some great tips on riding in this area. He definitely has some strong feelings about West Yellowstone. I've only had good experiences in West Yellowstone, but his experience there is a lot more extensive than mine, I'm sure.
There other other towns around the parks that I love. Gardiner and Cook City, MT are wonderful. Cody's great too, but a little further from the park exit. Red Lodge is a favorite, and I like the road past Henry's Lake, through Ennis, MT up to Norris Jct. then east to Bozeman. (87/287). As near as I can tell, you cannot go wrong on those roads in that area. Livingston to Gardiner -- love it! Columbus to Red Lodge -- fantastic. Red Lodge to Cook City -- incomparable. Yellowstone through Teton NP to Jackson -- unforgettable.
