Default poll possible? single best riding area in each state

i'd like to see some sort of survey on what riders who are familiar with a particular state consider the best ride in that state. would have to be one particular area.
in mn. i would vote for the north shore drive on lake Superior. in s.d. it's no doubt the black hills.
can it be done state by state? mebee a couple of days discussion on each state then move on. starting with alaska?
could someone smarter than me figure out how to do this. we are going to the north east states next year and it would be great to know what the best rides are in Maine or Conn. etc.

PA --- Anything north of interstate 80, and west of route 15 (15 runs north/south between Harrisburg & upstate NY), in particular, route 120 from Lock Haven to
St Marys, and any of route 6, west of Mansfield all the way to OH. Even though it's south of 80, route 74 between Carlisle & Port Royal. (Thought I'd be waiting awhile if you started with Alaska & I waited til you got to PA!)

Arizona has a lot of great motorcycling roads, but my favorite is the Coronado Trail - AZ 191 from Safford to Springerville. You pass through Morenci and one of the largest open pit copper mines on earth, then start climbing into pine-forested mountains eventually cresting a 9500' pass then you drop down through Hannagan Meadow to Alpine, about 9 miles from the NM border. It's very scenic and is a welcome break from the heat of the Greater Phoenix area.

A close second (closer to Phoenix) is Hwy 93 N from Wickenburg to Hwy 89. Head E up Yarnell Hill and through Wilhoite into Prescott, then take Hwy 89A N over Mingus Mtn to the town of Jerome, then you're 25 miles from Sedona and from there, it's 20 miles to Flagstaff. Leaving Flagstaff, take Lake Mary Road S to where it hooks up with Hwy 87, take 87 S through Pine, Strawberry and Payson. From there, it's about 100 miles back to central Phoenix.

And I'll vouch for East of RT15. Forksville,Loyalsock State Forsest and over East to Lackawaxen. I do alot of riding and hunting in the Forksville area. I love it up there.

Default The River of No Return

IDAHO: In October I rode back roads to Missoula, Mont. from Coeur d'Alene and then headed south to Salmon, Idaho over Lost Trail Pass. My idea was to follow the Salmon River to its headwaters in Central Idaho. So, from Salmon to Challis to Stanley to Ketchum and then back to Stanley and then east to Boise via Idaho City I had my own private Idaho. There are lots of great choices up in this country and this would be one of them.

In Florida stick with the North Central part of the state. If you find yourself down South, ride U.S 1 to Key West.

I think it's a great idea. However, as you may have already realized, you'll probably have to do a separate thread for each state to keep folks on point.

Louisiana The best ride I have found is along Toledo Bend Lake in northwest Louisiana.Highway 190 has nice hills and great scenery and some of the side roads you can find some decent twisties.

Oklahoma: IMHO,

Short ride = Hwy 80 between Hulbert and Ft. Gibson in the Northeast.

Long ride = Talimena Scenic Byway in the Southeast into Arkansas.

Regarding Maine, there is no Single best riding area, there are many. It depends on what you want to see; ocean, mountains, forrests, lakes or rivers. I will say, my opinion, that Rt1 up the coast from Kittery to Camden is way over rated. Lots of traffic and not that much to see. The key to seeing the coast in Maine is to head down the pennisulas that come off of Rt.1.
