Default Need a few suggestions

Planning a trip to Yellowstone via Oregon and Idaho. Can anyone suggest places to stay near Crater Lake, Oregon? Also, made reservations in Cooke City, Mt. at a Super 8 as a fall back, but would rather stay in something more rustic. Anyone have a better spot?

Essentially heading north via the Esatern Sierras to Oregon, then up towards the Hood River, then east to Montana via Idaho 12. Yellowstone, Bear Tooth, south to Utah, and back to So-Cal. Think I have most of it figured out, but my dang route keeps changes as I add more things to see, lol.

You have to go thru the GRAND TETONS....we found them better than Yellowstone!

We stayed in Sisters, Oregon. This is a little out of your way. Going north on US 97 there are chain motels in La Pine and Bend. Nevada 72 has a thread in this forum that talks of his recent trip to Crater Lake from California. We rode US 26 over to Ontario, Oregon and this is a nice ride. I did do Beartooth and wished we would have spent some time in Red Lodge, Montana. And I forgot, I think Sisters is a little pricey.

You're choices are pretty limited in Cooke City. In addition to the Super 8, there's also the Antler's Lodge (all cabins if I recall), Elk Horn Lodge, High Country Motel, and Cooke City Alpine Motel along with a couple others.

I don't know when you're planning on going but the Super 8 doesn't have air conditioning (doesn't really need it) and it's three floors with no elevator. So, try to get on the ground floor if possible.

While you're near the Beartooth, I'd recommend riding the Chief Joseph's Highway (Hwy 296) even if you have to turn around at the end and come back up to Hwy 212 (the Beartooth). The Chief Joseph's Hwy is #2 on my least of most beautiful roads I've ridden behind the Beartooth.

spent the night in cooke city last 4th of july, you don't need to worry about air conditioning. also don't remember the name of the bar/grill. but they have delicious brick oven pizza (just dont ask for ranch dressing)
