Default route 66?

I was wanting to ride route 66 next winter from st. Louis to cali. Then back again. The only time i can do it winter because i work 7 days a week from march till thanksgiving. Have you done it? What gear did you use? Or can you think of another ride that be as good.
I'm just wanting a little more ride time than i got this year. I even that about doing a saddlesore trip.

Sounds fun, but I'd take a different route back for more scenery.

We did 66 from Laughling to Flagstaff last year after the Laughlin River Run in April and got snowed on. Bring gloves. And more.

Either wait until late spring, summer, early fall, or bring all the foul weather gear you can. Including tire chains, I have, in the past, had to make my own. Heated everything, i.e. gloves, boots, jacket and pants. Watch carefully for "black ice"! Been there, done that in my younger years and will never do it again. No matter how prepared you think you are, you won't be.

Sounds like a challange. I have done the route. A lot to see, in both directions. Must do ride.
Really anything water proof, heated and double or triple set is recomended, two helmets.

Don't do this in the winter! It's likely not going to be fun, and on a bike could be downright dangerous. We came back from Laughlin in late April on year and there was 8" of snow on the ground from Williams to Flagstaff. One time it was 20* at the end of April, and last year it was 28* with strong winds all the way from Flagstaff to Shiprock, NM.

I have ridden the route all the way from Chicago to Calif. and it is a very interesting and historic thing to do, just not in the winter.
