I like the road trip section. Lot of information in there. However Road trips are those maybe once a year type trips for most. However there are a lot of people that do the weekend trips or just a day trip on the weekend. I know there is the best ride per state but over time that could get very long and a pain to find any information. Posting this as a poll to see if people would be interested in section for each state where people can make threads for their rides under their state. Where you can go in and say this was my route, where we stopped, the most sees, the dont waste your time, and even post pics of your ride. Just an idea. Also if you have any ideas to add feel free to post them. Maybe if enough people vote on this we can get a new section created.
Check at to bottom of the forum. There are areas broken down by area that already serve this purpose. Ie. Southwest=NM, AZ, Ok,TX. There are rides and ride schedules posted on a regular basis there.
If Bill means the regional events, rides section, it's just that. Events or happenings in a given area. And more offen a gripe section for complaints about say, Myrtle Beach. And how did West Virginia end up in northeast?
JR, I think it's a great idea. Like the Joker I'm from NoVA too. A lot of my overnight runs are in WV. While I know the east side pretty well some local knowledge always helps. Like how about a cheaper alternative to the Marlinton Motor Inn? Good places to eat? etc.
Road Trips is where I check in first. Most of my posts are about Skyline or the BRP. It's my backyard and people from out of state want the long trip info. But...Here in the middle of winter I tend to ride in the Northern Shenandoah River Valley. Horse and wine country to the east, apples to the west with miles of twisty one laners in between.
Buzzard and Joker, Am planning our summer trip now. Near the end of June we are heading south out of Ohio thru Kentucky into Tennessee. Work our way around Moonshiner and the Cherohola and back up to the BRP. I know that I left out the Dragon but I've been there and done that and have t-shirt to prove it. The road really didn't impress me too much. Couldn't look away at the scenery. Plan on taking the BRP from south to north as we have been the other way. Take Skyline Drive and wobble up into Maryland and back toward home. Any other good roads in your neighborhood?

Jay there are many great roads off the BRP. Some stops to check out are Mount Mitchell just a short mile ride off the BRP and the view on a clear day is outstanding. Also there are restrooms there and a snack bar for coffee and refreshments. A good road to ride is the Devil's Whip (Hwy80) http://www.thedevilnc80.com/index.htmland the Diamondback (Hwy 226). Some info about the diamondback http://www.diamondbacknc.com/ and the Diamondback loop where you can ride both http://www.diamondbacknc.com/db_loop_route.html
A state by state link to maps with routes would be pretty cool. For example, say you're looking to do a day trip in AZ, it would be great to have maps with 200, 300, 400 mile rides of the best roads. Could also list points of interest, hotels, restaurants, bars...

I know there are several sources you can use to post maps with routes. I prefer Google.

Bill
Bill,
I have been to that section. That usually is just events. Not to mention if we used that, some sections have a lot of states, so if could get confusing. If any thing use that as a shell. For example mine the South East, have a section for each state you can post in, and maybe keep one in there for just events.
Jay72, First I would avoid Skyline unless it's a weekday and then plan to hit it early in the morning. So here's two thoughts, first one avoiding Skyline. Around mm 30 on the BRP is Rt. 56. Take that west toward Steeles Tavern. The first few miles are very steep, wooded, twisty and tight. Follow that west into 606, Raphine Rd. Take that until you hit 252, turn left (south) to Rt, 39 west to WV. Follow that into Marlinton, WV then take 219 north into Maryland. If you have time, turn south on 219 to 55 west to Rt. 150, The Highlands Scenic Highway. That loops around back to 219, turn left (north)
For some real back of the mountain local riding you can take Skyline Drive north to about mm32 Rt. 211. Head west down 211 (very fast sweepers) the first few miles. Exit 211 at 340, turn left 100 yards down turn right over the first bridge that will turn into 675 heading west over two mountain gaps. When you come to Rt. 11 in Edinburg turn left, 1/2 mile south on the left is Sal's Bistro. That's where you eat lunch. Then turn right onto 675 (also 185) across the street from Sals. Follow 675 to 623 Back Rd. Take that north to Rt.600 Zepp Rd. Turn left on Zepp. This will be the third gap and while paved, Zepp Rd. can be rough in spots. The gap will be steep, twisty and narrow, even moreso than the last two. Be careful. 600 will take you into Rt. 55 just east of the WV border or keep going into Rt. 50 or further still into Rt. 522. That will bring you into Maryland by I-70. Lots of choices.
