Going to Mt Rushmore this June. Is it necessary to make motel reservations ahead of time or are there rooms around that area to get without making them. Thanks for your help on this.

June might be OK, but late July and August is a definite reservation.

Also, you can get some good ride reports and suggestions if you post in the Road Trips section of the forums, a lot of others have ridden in that area. You'll get some good roads to ride, motels to stay at, and places to eat on your journey.

If your dates are set already, I'd just go ahead and recommend that you make reservations now. One less thing to worry about later. Just check cancellation policies in case you need to reschedule/cancel later.

I agree. That way you can see what the Hotel or Motel looks like in person. They can hide alot in pictures. I have been going to Sturgis during bike week for 6 years straight and have never made a reservation and I have always found a nice room.

+1 on that. If your luck's anything like mine, there won't be a dog house available if you show up without reservations.

Enjoy the trip. The South Dakata Black Hills are a wonderful area to explore.

Ride Safe,

You'll be fine in June. Plenty of space then. Now the end of July, and first part of August, well that's another story. Enjoy.

We went there last year coming back from Glacier 1st part of July and there were tons of places. You will love the riding there, one of my favorite places.
