Looking for advice about possible route across Fla. I want to drop down off I-10 as soon as possible but don't want to fight the traffic, lights etc by going through Pensacola, Ft. Walton Beach, Destin, and so on.
Thought about taking Rt 20 and maybe if time permits take a detour down 71 to 98 and back up to 20.
For Florida folks or anybody familiar with the area is this a good option to avoid I-10? While I don't need to be running 75 mph, I do need to make a little time.
The traffic on I10 normally isn't to bad, from Tallahassee to nearly Jacksonville it is normally pretty mild. Other possible routes will be more scenic but SIGNIFICANTLY slower/longer than I10, When we made the Daytona rally we took i10 to the Jacksonville bypass, cut over to A1A and ran down the coast to Daytona.
Now I recommend you avoid I75 South, that can be one crazy mess to navigate.
I agree I-10 in Florida is not too bad as super slabs go and I'll take it on return trip. I've run it before and was looking for a different route over this time.
