I'm riding from Cypress, Texas to Pensacola Beach then Daytona for 2 days then the Keys and back to Texas during Bike Week. Looking for advice regarding a hotel on the beach or at the 155/40 interchange about 15 miles away in Ormond?
I guess the question should have been easier to understand. If going to Daytona do you recomend staying close to Main St. or 10-15 miles away from the caos?
your call. I've only been once and I already knew I didn't want to be in the center of things....so stayed out by the interstate across from the raceway. ..easy access to other venues and not in the center of things. positives and negatives both ways, just depends on what you prefer.
Sleep Inn in Ormond Beach. Towels for bike in the morning and next door to Denny's and Chili's with WalMart across the street. 10 Minutes from Main Street. Ms. Jo is Manager.
Well actually there are three area's with a lot of vendors and stuff to do. Destination Daytona, Main St./Beach St. area and the Speedway. DD is in Ormond Beach but miles from the water. If you're thinking of doing a lot of drinking I'd recommend staying near Main St. or maybe out at DD cause you don't wanna drink and drive. One for the obvious reasons and the other they have a lot of DUI check points.
On the road(I can't recall which one it is) between DD and Daytona are Full Throttle Saloon, Smileys Tap and the Broken Spoke. Lots of good music at Full Throttle and the Spoke but the Florida Hwy. Patrol had a huge roadblock setup right between the two, picking people out at random checking them out. Florida doesn't have a helmet law but my buddy was wearing his with the visor up. They waved him in and checked him out for that.
Lots of vendors, demo rides, racing going on at the Speedway and there's a lot of hotels out that way. We stayed right next store to the track at Hampton Inn, but wasn't much going on there if you're so inclined and the only thing in walking distance is the Olive Garden.
A1A from Daytona to St. Augustine is an amazing ride along the water, probably the best stretch of A1A left in Florida....man I keep talking and I'll be booking a room LOL
If you plan to stay in Daytona Beach there are still rooms available. I booked mine just yesterday at this place right on the beach. Small room (only for 2 people) for only $106.00 each night for Fri, Sat, and Sun. March 9th, 10th, 11th. Great place.
I've stayed out near the freeway the last couple years and it was ok, but just ok. This year staying on the beach about 2 miles North of Main Street., All 3 were hotwire finds. I think preference it's based on where you want to end your day, we've ended most days on Main, so we decided to get closer this year.
I appreciate all of the responses! I was looking hard at the Hampton Inn where Kahunajim stayed or Ormond area. Wow, all of these check points and road blocks seem to put a damper on the party! Maybe I'll stay close just in case...
last few years I take the week off for vacation. I live in Winter Haven. I always just watch the weather and just go on day or days with no chance of rain. Im close enough to ride over and back each day I attend.
Even though its always a Ground Hog Day repeat each year, it's still enjoyable for the ride and people watching.
