Default The Natchez Trace

I've done this road from the north (just southwest of Nashville, TN) down to Tupelo, MS on my bike and once from the south coming north in a convertible.

If you're looking for a nice, quiet, low traffic, two lane drive for a bike ride you should check out this drive.

IMHO, it's not nearly as a beautiful, curvy, hilly ride as the Blue Ridge Parkway but it is a peaceful ride that goes through some interesting areas, as well as some Civil War Battlefields.

It's especially nice if you (or someone with you) aren't a seasoned biker.

I did it last year. I thought there was a lot less traffic than the Blue Ridge Pkwy. Also found you could move a little faster as the speedlimit on the parkway is a killer.

Rode it about ten years ago. A wonderful cruising ride. It does bend, curve, and go up and down more the further north one goes.

In Mississippi...

Kinda nice the way the trees are cleared on both sides of the road so you can see any critters that may want to cross. Is it like that for most of the Trace?
Heck, I'll find out when I sample it this summer.

It is a beautiful ride, but the 50 MPH speed limit is a killer even if you cheat.

A bunch of us are going down to Nashville in Sept. One day we're renting some bikes from Boswell's HD. Just for the day, 8 hrs or so. Any recommendations as to a good place to stop for lunch off the Natchez Trace?

Just brought my bike home on the Natchez Trace. I bought it up above Nashville and as I live in North MS, the trace was the best route. Especially since I wasn't used to the handling and controls of the SG yet. Its a nice scenic ride with a comfortable speed limit (55mph).

Yes it is like this for most of the Trace. In a way, the Trace is like a 50 yard wide, 400 mile long National Park. Be sure to check out the many historical pullouts along the way. It is nice having that buffer zone between trees and road, but would note shortly before that pic was taken a whitetail burst out of the trees on the right at full sprint and crossed the road in front of me by about five feet before disappearing in the woods on the other side. There was a red pick-up truck behind me and I bet when he got home he told a tale of what he almost saw happen to that H-D rider in front of him.

Too bad you're not having lunch at Boswell's.
Their cafe has some good food and I love their catfish.

THere's some interesting real estate ($$$) not too far from Boswell's and as you go towards the Trace you'll pass by some properties that are owned by some of the Nashville "Cats"

I think the southern end of the trip is the best for scenery.

One of the most interesting things that I saw on the entire trip was a bow hunter out in one of the fields with a bow, ready to shoot and on the other side of a group of trees was a few does and buck watching him walking farther into the field away from them.
