the H-D/HOG site has a trip planner--- or AAA or even better just look at maps and figure out which way you want to go, suggest 2 lane roads and stay at elevation to avoid heat.
for instance I know that if I ride the 400 miles from here ( PHX) to LA on my Evo bagger ( 5 gal) at 75/70 which is the speed limit, I stop once for fuel. ( Patton Museum)
I leave here on a full tank, stop once and fill up again at destination.
If I ride at 85 I have to stop twice- which means the trip actually takes longer.
on my 09 ( 6 gal) the same trip I stop for fuel at 250 miles ( Indio) and when I get to LA I have about 80 miles range before I have to fill up again.
range of 150 hurts- I'd be looking at getting a gas can
I think the HOG trip planner has shell stations on it.

No I'm as tuned as i can get i get about 38 on the highway with my ultra, might be different now that i put the Reinharts on gas can i got in the saddle bag.
I figure on 200 miles a tank. The most direct route would be I80 throught Reno to Winnemucca. From there, head north through ****** Valley which will get you into Caldwell ID, just west of Boise. I would gas up in Reno, Winnemucca which should get you to Boise on that tank. If you get panicky, there is gas on US95 in ****** Valley.
There's not too many locations in the U.S. where gas stations are two hundred miles apart.
I've ridden some lonely roads to Alaska, and in Nevada, etc.
The closest I came to running out of gas was in Montana last year.
The station where I planned the gas stop was out of business and we had to make it quite a ways to the next station and by then I was starting to get a litte nervous but we made it.
I'd be careful about driving too late into the evening hours and never pass a station without filling up no matter how little gas you need.
I always carry a "Hillbilly credit card" (syphon hose) in my saddlebag just in case.

That's the route I'm taking i figure Reno, Winnemucca and burns junction should do it.
200 a tank i wish i get the light around 150 and start looking, i do have a saddlebag gas can just in case.
