Default First road trip; albeit a short one

Going on my first real trip on Sunday. Riding up to Santa Fe solo to hang out with the wife and kids.

Any suggestions on pre-trip prep. It's only 300 miles, but I'm going solo and just want to make sure I've got everything covered.

Oil is good, still got about 1000 miles life left, was gonna just check the tires, make sure they are clean; only about a year old with 7K miles on them, still plenty of tread. Was gonna bring an assortment of Allens, Torx, and an adjustable wrench. Any other suggestions? It's an 09 deluxe with 12 K miles on it.

Thanks

Credit card and cell phone. May want to wear a mouthpiece if you are going up I-10 towards Las Cruces. We were there last month and the grooved road had my teeth chattering!!! Enjoy the trip, Santa Fe area is a great destination.

Thanks, Bill. I'm really looking forward to it. I'll have the phone fully charged and I always have an emergency card on hand. I am heading up through Cruces on I-10, that construction has been going on for a while, I was rode up to Farleys in April, and it was crappy.

I'm excited about Santa Fe... already found a couple of Micro breweries to check out up there.

Enjoy your ride. You may have a tough time making your bike turn around when it's time to head home.

My suggestion would be to get to Santa Fe by way of the Turquoise Trail (State Highway 14) just east of Albuquerque. Not only does it go through Madrid (Wild Hogs Baby), but is a BEAUTIFUL ride from I-40 to Santa Fe. I know that's not exactly what you were asking for in your original post, but I just thought I'd throw it out there.

I'm glad you brought this up, I'm totally gonna do it. It's not really that far out of the way either. I don't want to get up there super late, but I'm not trying to make record time either. I was debating I-25, or US-54. Both are around the same distance. I've taken US-54 up that way before, but that was in a cage. I think I'll take 54 then head over to 14. Thanks!
