Heading there for the Legacy Run (American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund raising ride) back to Indianapolis this year. We could have an extra day to spend in PA on the way. We're wanting to go through Allegheny forset/park.
Lookin for a little advice on which route to take through. We won't have a lot of time but did want to enjoy the scenery.
just went thru there 2 weeks ago check out the railroad bride that was taken out by the tornado. They fix part of it with a glass floor. Take the back road pretty nice
If you're heading up 71 from Columbus, take 76 east at Barberton. 76 turns into 80 through PA. (Follow 80 east when you get to it, and not 76, the PA Turnpike toward Pittsburgh.) Get off of 80 at route 66 north in PA. (I think it's the Shippenville exit.) Take 66 all the way up to Kane PA where you pick up 6 east. (66 is a great ride up through the woods.) A few miles on 6, after you cross 219, in Mt Jewett, you can go to Kinzua Bridge State Park. This is the bridge that dan and jan above, mentioned, that blew down in a tornado. It's been rebuilt, and seems to be one of those must-stop places on a bike trip. It's pretty cool, and it's just a few miles east of 219 that goes up to Buffalo. I think Kinzua Bridge might have a website, or you can get pics from Google. The new observation deck was just finished last summer.
GG, I was hoping you were going to answer. Exactly what we were looking for.
If you're ever in the Indy area we can set ya up on a nice ride and even find a place or so that has good grub.
Thanks!
