Try to stay away from coffee - Try orange juice or those vitamine type waters - 5 hour energy works pretty good also - +1 on the ear plugs - Enjoy the ride - stop and take pictures - Stash some emergency cash if you can -
Yep, light meals and snacking along the way helps keep the sugar level even - Be safe
My son and I took a road trip a year ago last June to Clear lake, Iowa, from our home in LaSalle, Ontario. It was mainly a trial run to see if I could do 1000k+ a day. We went to the last place Buddy Holly performed, the Surf Ballroom. The 1064km (+, we detoured to Joliet Federal Prison to take pictures in front of the gate they let Belushi out of at the beginning of the Blues Brothers) was a piece of cake. I wasn't sore in the slightest. We went to the place the plane crashed, went to the venue Holly did his last gig at and realized time was still on our side, so split and went to Omaha, Nebraska just to say we did it. Last day was a 1035km straight ride back to LaSalle. Other than a wicked sunburn on my left arm, no troubles. The dry run was to see if I could do 9 days at 1000k (600 miles) per day. We live across the river from Detroit, and I've got this idea that won't leave me alone. I want to take 4 photos. One in front of a brothel in Pahrump, Nevada, sitting on the bike, looking a bit devlish, one sitting on the bike in front of Sacred Heart Church here in LaSalle where I was baptized, communionized, confessionized, confirmized and married, looking pious. One in front of the "Welcome to Dallas" sign, sitting on the bike, and one in front of the "Hollywood" sign, again, on the bike. Mount the photos 4-across with a brass plaque, reading, "I've been bad, I've been good, Dallas Texas, Hollywood." I know, dumb. But it'll make future grandkids laugh. Mapquest says this is almost a 9000k run. Can anyone give me any good advice as to what preparations I'd need mechanically? I plan to start on fresh oil in all three holes, new battery, new air filter, new plugs, etc. I have to have the cam tensioners checked in the fall. It's an '04 Road King Police bike with new rubber. Thanks for reading. Kenny.

That's quite the first post... coming from another newbie.
1) That's not dumb.
2) Slime your tires (although I think there is some debate about this) and bring a plug/patch kit.
3) Plan for a couple day break somewhere to rest and take your bike to a shop/dealer for an oil change and looksie
4) Can I go?
Hope I am not a poser with all my gear and gadgets
Why give a **** what those around you think, just ride, be safe and have a good time. If I worried about what the cool guys thought about my set up I'd have to stop riding. What the others said about taking break when you stop for gas and moving around makes the difference for me.
Have a great ride.
