Default Eastern Oregon Siggestions

Leaving home at Kettle Falls, WA on Friday morning and going south through Lewiston, Asotin, ID on to Enterprise and staying in Joseph, OR at Wallowa Lake. Sat. Morning going Joseph to La Grande on some twisty looking back roads staying that night in La Grande.

From there I have Sun. And Mon. To get back to NE Wa. Any must see Oregon stuff originating from La Grande? Any sites, stops, or routes ae appreciated. Thanks in advance. EW

If you like twisties head southeast of Joseph towards hells canyon and end up near oxbow dam. Riding into Idaho is real good or head back towards Baker City. Lots of good riding between La Grande and Bend. Get a good recreational atlas cause some of the good secondary roads aren't on all state maps. Have you ridden over Lolo pass before?

Yep, done the Lolo thing each year for the last couple. Ran it a month ago. Probably won't have access to a recreation map before we leave. Is ther a web site or search phrase that tells you is a road by name is paved or not.

Thanks or the response. EW

A few sites in Eastern Oregon worth visiting if you haven't been to them before.
Painted Hills (Off the beaten path but worth seeing), Oregon Caves, Lava Cast Forest, Lava Butte. There are several sites to see on the trip back depending upon the route taken.

When you get to La Grande, had south on either I84 or (best yet) take OR237 to North Powder. From North Powder, go up to Anthony Lakes. From there you can head south to (all paved Forest Service roads) Sumpter (great biker town), head west on OR7, to US26 to John Day before heading north OR head west on OR 7 to Bates and take Old Scenic Bikeway (paved) to US 395 and then head north. If you want to move faster, from Anthony Lakes you can drop directly to US395 on FS52.

US395 will take you back to Pendleton. From there, I would go back home on US 12 or any other back road to Ritzville or Spokane.

Stop in the motorcycle shops and look in the "corner" useually, or where they post info and look for the maps
http://www.comeridewithus.net/

The website explains some but ya can't print the map ?? advertising thing I guess
BUT,, They are free anywhere you can find them, and they are BY FAR the best maps with the info you need,,curves, gravel, fuel, etc. etc. for exploreing eastern Oregon and others
I think they have 3 different maps... I think they even have them for your area...check your local shop and ask about them........Have fun and try to do Sumpter neat little town,,check out the old dredge....

Looks to be a good trip so far. Kettle Falls to Joseph,OR. Stay the night at Wallowa Lake Lodge, ride the tramp to the top of that steep bastage and have dinner. Then off to Halfway, look over the Snake then on to Baker City for a stay at the http://www.geisergrand.com/ hotel. Sounds like a cool place with Happy Hour starting at 3:30and great food on site. Next morning off to Anthony Lakes, Sumpter, John Day, Pilot Rock, and stay in Pendleton. From there is still a crap shoot but probably back roads through Milton Freewater then north to cross I-90 somewhere and hit Soap Lake, Sun Lakes, Banks Lake, Grand Coulee, over to San Poil Valley to Republic and hometo KF.
Should be a good one. I will post up some pics and cool stuff along the way. Thanks again all for the help and leads. EW
