planning a trip to biketoberfest next month to get my self ready for a cross country trip next summer... anyone have any routes or stops to not miss on the way down there? any advise at all would be appreciated. I will be riding down on at dyna street bob minimal luggage minimal funds. trying to do it as old school as i can...
You didn't mention how much time you have. Rt. 81 avoids NYC, Washington and Richmond traffic. It's scenic, too. Minimum funds and old school equates to camping to me. If you're camping, a few extra days spent riding and camping in the Va, NC, Tenn mountains is the way to go. Off of 81 are plenty of national parks and the best rides this side of the Mississippi. If time is short, then 95 is the way to go and I can't think of anything near 95 that will compare with what's near 81.
Agree with the previous post. take 84 to 81 and go that way. NYC is not a great ride on a motorcycle.
I am thinking of doing the same. I am thinking 81 into Tennessee, then south to Ashville, then to robbinsville and ride Deals gap / tail of the dragon. If you have not heard of this, go to tailofthedragon.com. Losts of incredible roads in the area.
