US-60 doesn't go to Safford. It turns N at the east end of Globe. US-60 then goes through Salt River Canyon and Show Low. US-70 goes to Safford. It's not a bad ride, just did it a couple of weeks ago myself. There is some highway construction in San Carlos that may slow you down.

I've said it many times here before - 191 from Clifton to Alpine (The Coronado Trail) is the best ride in AZ. I have ridden it several times, but not this late in the year.

I went through New Mexico a couple of weeks ago on my way to Antlers, OK. Went through Hobbs. I'm glad I live in AZ. (sorry, couldn't resist).
