Hope you are not too shocked at the prices to rent in Vegas. I was going to do the same in Tampa a few years ago and was quoted $170 a day PLUS a $2000 security hold on my credit card to cover any possible damages ! Thought about it and declined their offer. Decided to buy my own and keep it out there.
Gives me a great reason to go out and ride each year
I will be going through Las Vegas early May on my way back to Tampa if you want to catch up for a cold one or two

My parents live inbetween the Lakes and the Dales. I was there in the summer and spent some time driving around the Forest of Bowland ( it is not a forest but an area like the lakes and Dales}. Fun roads without the tourism and great scenery. One day I will hire a bike and ride there.

You live in southampton and complain you have no real good routes to ride??
I know it is not like the American ones that you see in the movies but, come on. You live in Hampshire next to the New Forest, on the coast and not that far from Devon and Cornwall. I'm not here to insult you but, you need to open your eyes and look at what the good old UK has to offer. Grass looks always greener............. Even thru bike goggles.

The B roads through the Scottish Highlands and through the Yorkshire Dales/Lake District are some of the more scenic and fun roads I've ever ridden.
....
Yes, would agree. Sweet riding in the UK.

Harleyglen - I have to disagree with you totally. I live in Essex and last year I took road trips to Wales (3 days) and Scotland (a week). Stayed off the motorways and the roads were brilliant, involving riding all the time not just sitting back and grinding through a tank of gas. Also where you are, like myself you have great access to the continent. You've done a tiny bit of northern France but you've not done the Massif Central, Route Napoleon, Grand Canyon Du Verdon, the Alps, Pyrennees not to mention countries like Spain, Italy, Austria, Germany, the whole of Scandinavia plus don't forget that in the last 20 years the rideable part of Europe got a lot bigger (several hundred thousand square miles) when communism collapsed in Poland, East Germany, Czech and Slovak republics, Hungary, Romania, much of former Yugoslavia etc etc. Plenty of places to go, lots of different histories and cultures - it's fantastic.

This years trip was in the States (Las Vegas to Sturgis and back), superb trip covering 8 states, next year I'd like to circumnavigate the Baltic and will involve travel through Belgium, Holland, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Finland (Possible Russia although I might take a ferry to avoid that one), Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland. Alternatively I might go to Norway and do the Nordkapp.

Expand your horizons.

Now that sounds like an epic ride!

Wish I had the time and money, because I would love to do that!

yeah, i know what your saying but before i got into bikes i was into landrovers big time and i have done the swiss alps twice, germany, belgium, netherlands, devon, cornwall and north wales.
Yes there are some nice routes over here and short hop on the ferry but for me the state side routes are my dream trips.
When youve done the trips over here its a bit like been there done that for me, but allright its a bit "american dream" but with the roads/scenery e.t.c in the states i think i would be replacing lots of tyres!!

Glen, I understand mate. I think it's kind of like the guy you hear about who has a hot wife at home but cheats on her.

I've done some great rides in the states and there are many more I plan to do. Even so, I've been to Wales many times to visit the wife's family, been to Ireland 3 times and up to Scotland for a week in '09 and always wish I could find the time and money to rent a bike or better yet, ship mine over.

Actually going over next spring so maybe this will be the time I do it..
